How do HBN users store their barrels??

When using naked bullets I always store my SS barrels with solvent or oil in the bores, but how about those using HBN? Do you store them away dry? I just feel wierd storing a barrel away until the next comp with nothing in the bore, more to prevent the powder or carbon fouling from going hard than to stop corrosion? Does HBN inhibit corrosion?

Forget the technical term but HBN does'nt attract moisture like WS2 and Molly will.
As for inhibiting corrosion, I would'nt go that far.
I have two barrels that use HBN for competion. I'd shoot both for an entire season without ever cleaning. About 500rds each.

Even though HBN does'nt attract moisture in a technical sense long term high humidity is bad Ju Ju. Normal corrosion will begin to take place.
Usually seen as whiteish flakes in the bore. If you find that occuring a few dry patches will clean it up.
Since I decided not to skimp on the AC bill that problem disappeared.

Just because I did it that way does'nt make it right but now you know what to look for.

No, hBN doesn't do anything to prevent normal corrosion. That it doesn't contain sulfur (like moly or DANZAC) makes it less likely to cause corrosion but it's still a good idea IMHO to use good bore-preservation practices to inhibit corrosion potential.

I don't clean my bores much during the season but I do clean then oil them for winter storage. Rifles are stored muzzle-down in the safe with a clean rag or several cotton patches between the muzzles and the safe floor to catch oil that migrates downward. I also check them every month or so & re-oil before returning them to the safe. Prevention is the key word; once corrosion starts the damage is done.

After cleaning I treat the bore with a mixture of Kroil & hBN. Should provide some protection from rust . For more protection, a few drops of a heavier oil in the mix wouldn't hurt.

I have a low use varmint 6AI that does not settle down for 6 shots or so. I decided it was less damaging to
not clean barrel until accuracy decreases..stored with a dehumidifier. Unless the GHogs #'s rebound in my area,
for about 10 shots a year, I would rather have first shot right on. Has worked for 2 years now.

Thanks for the input guys. My 1x HBN coated barrel seems to take quite a few shots to settle down after a few oily patches so I will keep the oil in the bore for winter, then leave it be once it is HBN coated again, unless I am shooting in very humid conditions.
