How Do Douglas Barrel Stack Up in Today's Barrel-Making Universe?

I love it when there is a cobbler next door. Peach is still my favirite.
OK OK...... YES and NO!!!

I think we have agreement here EXCEPT,

If yer in certain places in the Midwest they make it with some yellow plastic turds they dump from a tincan!!!

REALLY!

I'm SERIOUS!

I'm sure we could discuss for days to merits of a fine G'aw'ga Peach VS the succulent nectar from Yakima.... or Cowiche VS Naches.... and we could righteously argue for DAYS whether a crust should have cane or brown ... or cinnamon...

But ain't NO COBBLER to be made from a Del Monte can!!!!!

Amen

This was my experience too.

I had good luck with Douglas barrels. They’re not BR quality, but they’re good enough for even an LR hunter. The next step up was Shilen.
A good barrel is a good barrel. Dan Dowling built a 22 Waldog for me using a Panda action, McMillan stock and Douglas barrel. During a practice session on a Saturday at Ben Avery shooting range, it was shooting so well that a competitor with many HOF points made me an offer for the rifle I couldn't refuse. Yes... A good Douglas barrel is every bit as good as any other good barrel used in BR competition.

Unrelated to barrels, but it is surprising how many people can do something 1000 times and never once worry about doing it better, let alone doing it as well as possible. Lose one of the few that tries to do it better than last time and its easily noticeable.
Find a barrel guy that constantly tries to be MORE perfect each time and your in the money.

Well Douglas barrels tend not to show up in SR BR equipment reports, and that’s what prompted the statement. I’ve shot a lot of Douglas barrels and they’ve been excellent quality. A lot of Harts too.

I’ve had very good luck with Shilen barrels. And the same with Hart.

I have a GR Douglas on a custom .50cal muzzleloader. Not sure if the same people, my late uncle built it for my father as a gift from my late mother. Don't get out to shoot it much due to the time involved in the loading patched balls and the clean up afterwards. Seems to shoot well enough with 80 grains of ffg.

Well then you had better look at long range, many set records. I know of a few that have used them at short range,Smiley, Tony to name a few...... jim

Your posts are hard to read...and not funny.

Strange...

I fall into the "a good barrel, is a good barrel crowd". IMO, there was a lull for a few years in terms of barrel quality. It seemed that barrels made back around 2004-2008 or 9ish were really good and then the lull cam until a few years ago. There are definitely some very good barrels being made at this time and it shows in some phenomenal aggs being shot over the last few seasons. I'm not sure why but I've talked with barrel makers that feel like a lot of it is in the steel. I also think there have been improvements in buttons and in bore straightness and consistencies, throughout, both button and cut. Everyone seems to be on their game right now with barrels. These are just my own overall observations from over some years. I'm quite sure there are exceptions. I'm sure Douglas barrels can shoot. Just finishing a couple of hunting rifle builds up now, using Douglas barrels. I'm not at the least concerned about having issues with them and Stan is great to deal with.

Yo Docboy.... I've a novel concept for you to consider.

I see that life is hard for you..... let me help!

As you walk thru life and see something that looks scarey or smells funny..... DON'T PICK IT UP! Don't get too close, don't look too long, and DEFINATELY don't lick it!
Doc boy ? Are you a child ? More proof...you are not funny . You say a lot,yet nothing registers as knowledge .

thank you for caring

I'll try to avoid the threads you might read in the future

But it's not Doc boy, it's Docboy, an obscure (and not funny I'm sure) cultural reference.

I get the feeling that in 'Good Morning Vietnam' you liked the character Lt Steven Hauk played by Bruno Kirby...... Whereas I enjoyed Robin Williams' character, Adrian Cronauer......

Ohhhh, and I like chicken.

And a good cobbler (some of the cherries grown out here in Satus/Toppenish area are to die for)

OK.... daleboy, I owe you an apology. I'm sorry that I answered you directly and I feel I owe you an explanation.

THIS thread.....

I would never start a thread with "Is Salma Hayek Hot?" or "So, does Ford make a good truck these days???" But I am also a pragmatist..... this thread IS......right out there in front of God and ever'body IT IS

Even though being a part of a thread like this gives me a vague unease.... even though parts of me are repelled to even BE here...... I came here.

It's called "deflection" (another vague cultural term, NOT funny)

And then came YOU!

YOU on your magnificent charger came hurtling into the gap hurling maleficence like a blinding ray of hope!

You STALLION you!

And, like an eager puppy I jumped on the opportunity and I'm sorry.

I used your post like a tissue, and it was wrong.

Enjoy The Day
