How are you guys applying dry lube?

Dimner

I do believe in Captain Crunch.
So I am new to the world of expander mandrels and bushing dies. Just dipping the neck into the redding dry neck lube is kinda messy and I think results in too much lube. There has to be a better way. So two quick questions.

1) Should I use any dry lube on the inside of the neck while using a FL bushing die?

2) What is your preferred method to apply dry lube inside your necks?

Are you using the dry lube in ceramic beads? Or just dry lube?

Is there a DIY way to do this? I have some of these 'Poly Pellets' are they worth a try?

Poly pellets don’t like to shift around each other. They make for great super lightweight bag filling but they will probably resist any stirring or dipping. The Redding media appears to be small perfectly round ceramic beads, which tend to stay in the container and move around smoothly when in use.

That said, I haven’t tried this, just combining my unrelated experiences with both. So if you try it let us know how it goes.

For the OP: I use a q tip dipped directly into the media filled Redding dry lube container. I then swab each neck and need to re dip the swab every few cases. If the mandrel gets grabby I re dip more often. I am very careful to not get ceramic beads in the q tip because it gets pretty hairy before long. I don’t want to send ceramic beads down my barrel!

Qtip, I like that. I'm going to try this first. I'll use a qtip and swab up any dry lube that is on the inner side of lid of my dry lube supply.

Im trying to recall, at work, who I got a small pair of tubs with a ceramic type balls (very small) that you drop the dry lube into and shake, dip the case mouth/shoulder into 1-3 x and it applies it very cleanly. Looks like the size of a tub of JB bore paste size, lasts a long time!
If I remember to look when I get home can post again.

What PatMiles said in post #3 except I use a properly sized bore mop instead of a Q tip. One dip into the alcohol /moly mix and you can coat 10 case necks.
Dry moly or graphite is just too dusty to work with and doesn’t stay put well on the inside of the neck especially when you drop powder.
