How are the new Berger 109s working out?

curious for feedback on these. Need to make a large order of heavy 6mm’s once I decide between the 105s and 109s. I’m about done with a 500ct box, but admittedly didn’t shoot many groups at distance.

The 105s shot well for me in my 6Creed 7.5 twist using Hodg H4350 and CCI 450, but I couldn’t find a real accurate load with the 109s. I also tried SMK 110s, but I’m currently shooting the DTAC 115s.

I have several friends who have tried them in otherwise very accurate BR rifles. None have been able to get them to shoot satisfactorily.

I’ll be watching this thread to see if others have had more luck.

Dave.

I ran them this year in my 6 Comet in NRL/PRS type matches with pretty good success. They need to be jumped a little. At first I was shooting them at .020” off but went to .060” off and that made a pretty significant difference. Like half to quarter Moa.

I've heard mixed results (I haven't shot them) ranging from "they're outstanding" to "meh - not so hot". The 105s are more universally praised.

I frequently see this trend. I think until more folks get a handle on what the new bullets like, it'll continue to have rocky reviews. The new LR hybrids seem to like to jump a ways, which many folks seem to be resistant to trying because of their preconceived preferences and ideology. The 85.5 were like that in my 22BR. Got them back out of the lands 0.030" and they tightened up.

Makes sense. I would expect 105s to be slightly better than 109s, but at the end of the day, even with good bullets, there's just to much going on to predict, and you've got to find the one that your rifle likes.

I tried the 109s in both my 6mmBR 1-8 Tw and .243AI 1-7.5 Tw blowing out brass and was not impressed with them so far. However, the 105 & 108 gr were impressive. Maybe with some work-up the groups would tighten up but at this point not willing to spend any time with them since both rifles are in love with the newer 107 gr Sierra bullet.

Good idea, the 107 are really good and very uniform...... jim

Bill,

Whats new with the 107? The pointing?

I worked up a load in a .243 Ackley I built that shot really well. I have since tried them in my 6XC and a couple other XCs that I have built and haven't got the results I was looking for in any of them. That particular bullet seems to be a little picky for some reason, at least for me. I did just receive a picture from my buddy that I built that .243 Ackley for sitting behind a giant muley that he had just harvested in New Mexico. He said that bullet performed very well and very similar to the 105 Hybrid with massive damage and good size exit hole.

I've cleaned several 600 yard F Class matches with the 109s in a 6BRA.

However, I still give a slight edge to the 108s, in my rifle
