You might Ask, the guys that shoot, a 6 BR if, they are having any, accuracy "Luck" with, StaBall MATCH ( it's close to, the Varget in Burn Rate ) if, you want to, shoot,.. a Ball Powder. And it's starting to, become available,.. NOW !Burn rate similar to Varget, but I find no data? Does spherical/ball powder create different pressure?
Yes- it is actually iron sand from NZ's west coast. During the great shortages, powder pushers were hanging around ranges selling small bags of the stuff. Hard to ignite. There are those that say ball powders are more temp sensitive than other shapes. I think Win748 is classed as a ball, looks more like sand, dust, or subatomic particles to me.
I think Hogdon and Alliant are scamming us at $50+, so I am looking for something to replace Varget and RL15, 15.5 and 16. In my 6BR. Staball 6.5 works great in my 6.5x47L. Doubt I can get enough in a 6BR case. I shoot <500 yds, so getting them is one hole is my goal.I've had no "Problems" in Winter or Summer with, WW-748 yet, as the POI and group sizes, "seem" to stay the Same for me. I'll probably switch to StaBall Match ( Varget Burn Rate ) WHEN, I run Out of, 748 as it's supposed to be more, Temp Stable.
I will NEVER weigh, any Stick Powders for, my Adams Arms, AA-15, Piston driven AR with, the 16" 1`-7 Twist barrel for it's, intended uses, mostly Fun steel plate practice & Coyote's to, 500 yards.
25.2 gr's of, 748 for the 69 SMK's, to 25.7 gr's of, W- 748 gets Me good accuracy / Velocity with, 60 gr. NBT's and 65 gr. SGK's,.. ALL Bullets / loads, produce Sub, 1 MOA groups.
I'm having GREAT luck ( awesome Accuracy ) with, StaBall 65 ("Thrown" chg's ) in my 6 XC ( 95 gr to 108 gr. bullets ) and with 143 gr. ELD- X's and 130 gr ELD-M's, in my, 6.5 Creedmoor.
OOP's,.. sorry,.. NOT, in 6 BR
Are you running 4166 in a br?Never tried 748 (Ball-C) but the newer Staball Match is showing signs of a good propellant for 6BR. Only put a few shots over the chrony at 100m so far , but when I have a chance I will be testing it at longer ranges - and I still have a few pounds of IMR4166 to use up!
It started when there was just no powder available - ( saving whatever Varget I had for the 308) and some IMR Enduron's arrived. I looked at the data, guessed at 28.5 and it shot fine. A little adjustment to load length. All good. I still have 3lb left. BTW - 28.8 gets exiting! Seems to work best with more neck tension than I normally use. I was shooting Hornady 105's to start, and when they ran out switched to Sierra 107's.Are you running 4166 in a br?
Good to know I have 5-6# I agree it likes more tension, I load this powder in 6.5cm with 123gr.It started when there was just no powder available - ( saving whatever Varget I had for the 308) and some IMR Enduron's arrived. You will get more velocity with it than any other powder I have tried.
I have a couple of pounds that I bought a while back. I will certainly work up a load.Cfe223 shot tiny in my BRA. It will work fine in a BR. You will get more velocity with it than any other powder I have tried.
