House borken in guns stolen - heads up

a friend, hunter, reloader, shooter, called this morning to tell me his tale of woe,

he had been out shooting, ran by a guns store on the way home in the afternoon, got home and took all guns inside, it was late so he did not put them away but set aside to clean the next day after work,

went to work, came home - doors broken in, all guns gone, -- IT WAS DETERMINED HE HAD BEEN FOLLOWED HOME FROM THE GUN STORE BY THE CROOKS - SAW WHERE HE LIVED AND CAME BACK THE NEXT DAY - knowing GUNS WERE IN THE HOUSE -WHILE HE WAS AT WORK.

watch your back!!

Bob

I hope they catch them. I thought about cameras because I had some things disappear. Someone also broke in about 10 years ago. They took 5 guns out of my gun cabinet and left 5. Matt

Not much one can say about these thefts except keep guns in a safe when you are not at home. Good Luck on the recovery.

What some people do not realise as well. My insurance co, and most cover a max of 1000.00 on gun theft. If it is natural disaster such as tornado it is unlimited. Justa bit of food for thought , check you insurance coverage!

+1 for what Valar said, also write down serial# of gun's, scopes and description of guns (stock, scope, custom barrel etc.) and keep in a fire proof safe in case of a fire also pictures would help. A plain Rem 700 is of alto less value than a custom one but when it's gone or burned up you will have proof what you had.

watch your back!!

Bob, That is the takeaway from your post. Your friend was followed home.

Last year I took a bunch of change to the bank in an ammo can and cashed it in. I came out of the bank and put the now empty ammo can on the back seat of my truck. I stopped at a computer store a couple of miles away from the bank on my way home. While I was in the store, the back glass of my truck was broken out and the only thing touched was the empty ammo can that was taken. Fortunately my only loss was the window and the can, but what if they had followed me home?

The predators are watching and just waiting for an opportunity. Watch your back!!

Security system, remote camera storage (not at your house as all they have to do is take the PC/recorder) and 4 dogs.....a mixed lot,

Lab/Rottie, Lab/Blue tick and 2 pitbulls.

I did activate my NRA insurance as well. Not a bad Idea to take a digital vidio of guns optics etc and store in safe deposit box at the bank. Then ya got some solid proof. The nra insurance will help to and to bye extra is fairly reasonable.

You could up load pics to photobucket or somewhere..

Most of the standard home security systems can be defeated very easily before you enter the house so you might not want to rely on them all that much. Defeating them is not a technological feat, and I am sure it is well known.

True, but a couple cameras and a Dog allows the local PD time to respond to your alarm..Nothing is fail safe and hindsight is always 20/20..Dogs do tend to deter all but the worst of the burglars, The others are the worst! Usually someone you know or someone willing to do harm.
