Hottest AR 6mm round,NON WSSM!) ???

I have been doing research. I was all excited to build me a WSSM upper in an AR, but in calling Olympic arms, they tell me they will not sell individual parts, to call DTECH. I call DTECH, and DTECH tells me he can't sell parts per Olympic.???
I call Accuracy Systems and they say they won't sell the parts due to "liability."

I, being a career machinist, laid off for now) & My own gunsmith, I refuse to pay $700+++ for an upper, period)& that doesn't use my choice of barrel. Not to mention I can find NO ONE ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET that will provide .243 WSSM ballistics with 105+ grain VLD match type loads. ,DTECH is to busy to experiment, Accuracy Systems seems uninterested)

So until someone decides to come off some proprietary parts, WSSM in AR's is boycotted as far as I'm concerned.

Having got that off my chest... What is the highest velocity 6mm round for an AR-15 that will mag feed?

I'm thinking it's the HAGAR, but i could be wrong.... ?

Thanks

The Hagar was used one year to win perry and I think the WOA the year before by the same man. I'll bet they were all single feed.
All of the Grendel cats seem to be finicky about loads but, Robert Whitley seems to do well with them.
I heard the Grendel failed the full auto test and wasn't reliable feeding from mags so I made the Banshee with a 25 degree shoulder to aid the feeding for my 3 gun rig and I can get 1/2 MOA.
I think it's up to you,the quality of the parts you choose and the ammo you produce.

Tres, I believe one of the main problems with the WSSM in an AR platform is the mags. and feeding. Just get this gut feeling from reading bits and pieces and talking with a couple of reliable sources that this is the issue. Don't know for sure but I will keep asking questions. I have one of Robert Whitley's 6mmAR uppers, non turbo) and I am very pleased with it so far. Merry Christmas. Bill

The AR rifle that Bernovsky,sp?),2007 National Highpower champion) used is magazine fed. First time that a rifle based on the AR won the National Matches Highpower Championship.

If you haven't already, check out this thread. It does discuss the players mentioned above except the Banshee.

I shoot the 6mm WOA and am more than pleased with the accuracy and super simplicity of loading. 1 hole groups with 70g SMKs are the norm, with similar performance with proper development of loads with the 105/107 class of bullets.
I still want to try the 6mm AR, but haven't got Robert Whitley convinced to send me one for testing.

mc223, I had to purchase one to test it but I really do enjoy shooting it. I have had minimal time with it so far and it is doing very good. I still have not maxed any loads out. Still working up a little at the time. Looks like the WOA is shooting well too. Bill

Feed and function has never been an issue with the WSSM. It feeds like a 1911 handgun: Both feed-lips control the case until the bullet and neck are in the chamber, there is NO where for the case to go, but into the chamber. I have several hundred of the WSSM's in the field, and feed and function has never been a issue.

Right now I have 6 WSSM's and a couple of BR's built on the AR-15 that are ready to ship, except for the small detail of having no carriers to send with them. Olympic tells me that the carriers are being heat-treated at this time, and in a week or so I should have them. This is just one of the examples of why I don't sell parts.

I had a small role in helping Olympic get the WSSM on the AR-15 to market. For that, they have allowed me access to the parts. Partly because of my help, but also because I buy a HUGE amount of barrels from them. I'm not trying to "hurt" anyone by not selling the parts. If I had bolts and barrel-extensions stacked up like fire-wood, I may have a different outlook, but that has never been the case. I'm almost always waiting on something.

FYI...Olympic makes some pretyy accurate 6mm bbls. I have a couple 6x45 Ar's with Olympic bbls that shoot "consistent 5 shot groups at 200 yards that are around 1/2"-5/8". That is around .25 MOA...from a semi-auto AR! The bbl wasn't cheap, but it is accurate and I can't wear it out.

Chris, I agree. The broach-cut SUM barrels are tough to beat. I have spent some time in the Olympic Arms factory on a couple of different occasions. The first time I was there, I was visiting with Bob, the owner, about the SUM barrels. He took me back to the barrel shop and introduced me to the staff. Many had already known me from the many special orders they had seen come through their shop. He told them that I was going to be spending some time with them in the shop and added: "Give him anything he wants"

Well, I ended up taking my own SUM barrel all the way through the process, including pulling the broach. When it was finished, they handed me the barrel and I took it home. I still have that barrel!

Back in the old days, when Oly sold blanks, I used several of them. I barreled a couple of bolt-action 6 x 45's and a .243 Winchester with their SUM blanks, and they are all tack-drivers.

Over the last 15 years or so, I have used about 2000 of the Oly sum barrels, along with barrels and blanks from many other manufacturers. I think the only way to get a better AR barrel is to get a custom barrel and have it hand-chambered.

Gentlemen, with all due respect to those who have posted here, and especially respect to Dtech, who is kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and a TOP quality smith'...

This post is about the fastest 6mm rounds in the AR platform, EXCLUDING the WSSM, due to lack of WSSM compenent availability to the "little [poor] man."

Please take WSSM talk elsewhere, unless AR WSSM proprietary component has became available unbeknownst to me.

Thanks & Happy New year,
Tres
