Hornady Power Case Trimmer

In the description it says 22 cal to 30 cal. How are you doing 20? I have over 1000 Vartarg to trim so I'm very interested
that's an old description, mine came with a 20 caliber pilot. I called Hornady and asked them the same question. The woman on the phone said they make them in such small batches she doubted if there was any of the older ones still out there for sale. But she said if it didn't come with the .20cal. pilot to give her a call and that she would mail one off to me. Because the Vartarg is such a short case I did struggle with alignment in the Colett from time to time, I found if I put my finger over the mouth of the case to hold the base flat against the Colett it worked a lot better. Also if you're like me and your Butterfingers, empty the lower tray frequently so when you accidentally drop one into the tray that hasn't been cut yet you don't have to look through very many.

I know the price point seems high on one of the trimmers to some of us, but realistically I’m on my second DeWalt gyro screwdriver now for chamfering and they don’t give those things away either,

I did the same thing with my finger over the mouth of the case. It really helps center the case in the collet.

That’s good to hear as I also have read different information and thought they had not updated them. Some sites listed it with the 20 cal pilot and others did not.
Could you do 17 if you got a pilot for it? I have not seen if they sell an extra cutter to have them set for dedicated calibers
Anyone know if the cutter blades are carbide?

I don't think there is enough dimensional difference between the pilot shaft of .154 and a .17 cal. pilot of ??. The inside chamfer cutter rest against that shaft and need a little more room to set right. It's not an issue for me as, I don't do .17's. Don't get me wrong, I like them, just got to draw the line somewhere.

For those hat have one, I was wondering if you could mount it on something like a bench grinder stand for portability. I wouldn’t think there would be much of a force or push against the trimmer.

May depend on footprint of stand, but, can't see any real issue with that, besides, that can be fixed if you do encounter it. Add some length to the foot(feet) on the side you are pushing against, hang some weight on the side you are pushing from, sand bag, bag of dog food, tie wrap a pc of plywood on the bottom, piece of string to nearest heavy object.

It's very easy to use and the force / push needed is minimal. I just sat it on my reloading bench and used a c-clamp to keep it from moving, when I'm done, it gets stored in a drawer so as to not take up any work space.

I’m really contemplating ordering. I forgot I have some gift cards to cabelas/bass pro I haven’t used in two years (never found anything I had to have I couldn’t get elsewhere cheaper). Would end up being almost half price of the the Henderson out of pocket
Did some digging and it also has carbide blades and the motor is the only thing not made in us. I love the micrometer

Are you satisfied with the chamfer smoothness?
yes, but, I've only used it on finishing 1000 new vartarg's cases. I have several other trimmers, RCBS, WFT and some others. this has been the best so far. I like the WFT, but my fingers can't keep up with the grip force required, especially if there is any lube on the case.

I made my own inside neck reamers that replace the pilots in both the Henderson and Honady trimmers. Allows you to inside neck reamers, trim, chamfer and deburr in one operation

of all the things about it, I like the thumb screw handle for tightening the collet on the case. it's like a solid hunk of aluminum, very beefy. very cool.

I like it, I just don't want to add one more thing. inside cutting, outside cutting. I just figure by using a expander, I have formed the neck to the inside dimensions I want, and then cut only the outside. but it's cool and you did a great job.
