Hornady Plant explosion at grand Island, Nebraska.

I live about 30 miles west of Grand Island. The tours they give are of the bullet making building. The cartridge loading is a separate area outside of town, by the old Cornhusker munitions plant grounds. You only get to drive by that plant. I believe the primer compounding is a separate building from everything else. If you recall, they developed the 17 Hornady Magnum rimfire cartridge, so it may have not been for rifle primers.

I was in a Thiokol plant where they were building rocket propelled ordinance. Each cell was a 3 walled room with the walls 12 feet high of 3 foot thick concrete. The 4th wall was in the outer shell of the building and constructed so as to be easily blown out in the event of an incident. There was no ceiling to the cell, rather it was open to the 25 foot high roof of the outer building. The product was passed to the next station through a 2 foot square hole thuough the concrete wall.

Kevin: Living this close to the plant, do you have better information, from your local news, on what exactly blew/burnt at the Hornady sites ?

Very little made the news. Beyond 3 fire departments responded, and the fatality, there was little information. Kevin

I think I’ll hold off just a bit.

Security concerns nationwide have been recently elevated, broadly. Likewise, mundane distraction in dangerous jobs is also an ever present reality to deal with.

The cause could land anywhere on that spectrum, and they will get to the bottom of this, unfortunately now with agencies’ oversight.

Stand strong, Hornady. Every year, there are fewer remaining American owned manufacturers in this industry, in this country. This is not the exit ramp or the sign to it.

Everyone should redouble their vigilance in 2A work and leisure. It won’t be long before this gets used as an example of the risks, side effects and loss from recreational shooting, Hornady’s core business.

I would prefer not to politicize this young ladies tragic death.

Gibbon? Kearney native here :)

You too?
I haven’t had a chance to talk to a couple people I know that probably do know what happened or at least what they believe happened. I doubt that any official determination of the circumstances had reached a conclusion yet.
Hornady is good people, I doubt anyone Is more concerned about this tragedy than Steve Hornady and his family!
I just reached out to my contact for central Nebraska rumor mill intel.
