I just heard about this, not sure if there are details or if it will affect the supply chain. Hopefully it wasn’t intentional. Unfortunately there sounds like there was one fatality. God bless all those affected!

WOW !!! Not good at all.

Just read where a woman was killed. No one else injured. Hornady are good people .prayers to the family and all involved.

Report in the Grand Island Independent said that in addition to the woman killed, there was one man hospitalized with concussion symptoms, and another injured. Neither of the two survivors are thought to be in life-threatening condition.

Sad news when someone is killed and even injured in this type of accident. Prayers for family members and the staff, including the Hornady family.
Time will tell how it effects the company and how bad the fire and damage was.

Adding to the other answer. As far as I know Hornady only make brass, bullets and loaded ammo, along with some marketing items.

I have never seen a box marked "Hornady primers" Perhaps they make them to load their own ammo? But then that does not explain the ammo shortage effecting Hornady also, unless the fix was in.

A lot of these different manufacturers are invested in catering to military contracts in one aspect or another. This involves giving priority to filling military contracts over civilian wants. And right now I'm sure those orders are not slowing down?

Ditto with the thoughts and prayer!

If it was in the primer area ,that primer mix can be set off by static electricity. A guy got blown up at lake city by primer mix. They didnt find enough to bury. Doug

Never saw or read that. Good to know

, but wonder if it is for just their own use in loading their ammo. Don't believe I have seen them listed for sale or in LGS's. Would be nice if they did however and add them to the supply chain.

I have toured the Hornady plant, and they do make ammo there.

I highly recommend the tour, you do need to make a reservation. If you are passing through Nebraska, they are in Grand Island, just a couple miles off Interstate 80.

The tour includes the bullet making, the test range (100yards underground), the machine shop and the packing and storage areas, the lead processing (they extrude their bullet cores) and the offices. You do not get into the actual cartridge loading process area it is restricted. It is quite an impressive tour. For example they have a machine shop to rebuild the presses that form the bullets to their own specifications for accuracy.

The recent explosion may have halted tours, but call them.

So what did they make in this "chemical building"?

Do seem to remember that primer production takes place in building away from the main production buildings at plants that do make primers. Just never heard of a Hornady primer. Now it could be the priming compound for rimfire ammo production.
