Hornady OAL Gauge

timeout

Silver $$ Contributor
I'm looking for the thread size of cartridge cases used in conjunction with the Hornady OAL guage. I want to make one for a wildcat cartridge as is not available from Hornady. Thanks!

It is an unusual thread size. The cutter for it is over $25 when I was wanting to do same thing. I will look later for the thread size.

Send Hornady a fired case and they will do one for you for around $7 IIRC

I had checked the thread with a pitch gauge and it appeared to be 32 TPI. I just went to Fastenal online and they list a 5/16X32, but not 36. The major thread diameter on the Hornady Gauge was .306", so 5/16" seems likely. Can you check that size once more for me to be sure? Thanks! I had Preacher chamber me a 6SLR. I want to shoot it a few times and maybe will need to sell it as I am gun poor. Anyway, I should sell it. Obummer keeps us retirees in the poor house!

10-4 on MSC. I would like to fire a cartridge first to get a good chamber fit and then thread it.

When you sign up for e-mail notification from Midway be quick on the trigger to put the order in. Twice I've been notified about an RCBS Summit press and both times (within hours) I missed out and it was back ordered again.

That's the one I am looking for. I am on their notification list. I am backordered two places and on three notification lists. Berger had said by email they did not plan to make any more until the end of the year. The next email said that if I had some on backorder, I will probably get them. Promised my brother that he could take the rifle to a shoot, but it would sure be nice if I could load enough for him to practice a little. I have enough bullets for my other rifles to make it through this year. I also need to get serious about a couple pounds of H4831 or 4831SC. Other than those two things, I'll be Ok to get throught the summer.

If I'm home, I'll get after it. Being a hunt and peck typist, I still may be beaten to the punch. Back when I went to High School, no one ever told me about computers and Al Gore inventing the internet someday. My thought was, when would I ever need a typewriter, much less typing skills? Seems like I was mistaken.

Sounds like you are squared away, Timeout! If you saw my hands you'd be surprised I could type at all!

This is posted on this site in the reloading section....just mentioning it....posted by BIG STINGER:

I had the same problem when working with my old 6.5 Swedish Mauser. A common way to make brass for it is to convert 270 Winchester, so I got that one and converted it. If Hornady has one available in 243, get one and convert it. You might have to over expand the neck somehow so that the bullet can move freely. I used my 6.5mm K & M expandiron to do mine.

Midway shows the 243 available http://www.midwayusa.com/product/128125/hornady-lock-n-load-overall-length-gage-modified-case-243-winchester

They do have 243 available and I have one. I just prefer to fire the round first and then convert it. Probably not all that necessary, but may be easier to get more accurate measurements. Thanks for responding to the post.
