Hornady comparator thumb / set screw size

I want to eliminate unnecessary grub screws and Allen keys from my bench and I'm having trouble with this one. It seems to measure M3.5x0.75mm threads, but that is a really odd size.

Before I get out a drill and tap a new hole in it, has anyone figured out where to get one?

I would take it to a hardware store that stocks a lot of sizes. I then would try till i get one to fit. I can't believe it would be metric. It takes a standard allen wrench . Matt

Gah, I'm an idiot. Measure the grub screw threads not the brass thumb screws. Steel threads are much sharper than brass. Looks like it's #6-32 threads.

PS: if you're anal retentive you might discover the brass screws are made from metric thumb screws threaded with english threads. Welcome to global manufacturing. ;)

Another option: take 6-32 socket head cap screws along with Shear-Loc knobs and make your own. They're made in different sizes. These are for a #6 and the thread size doesn't matter. They're pressed in to the head of the screw.

That’s a good option.

I’m planning to buy brass thumbscrews in the exact size from McMaster Carr for $3 each.

One last note: #6-32 is the thread size used throughout PC computer cases, and it's not uncommon to find these with thumbscrew style heads. So I never needed to order any since I found a couple in a bag of leftover computer screws.
