Hornady Bullet Production, lots of bullets out of production

F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
Maybe this is old news, but I missed it

I recently noticed that PVI dropped the 80 Amax from their list of bullets that you may someday, if you are diligent and lucky enough, get to actually purchase. That sent me looking and I found this page:

suspended production

and following the link on that page I found this one listing the bullets they are making:

Bullets in production

So, if you have been shooting the 162 Amax or the 80 Amax you need to stop looking for them and start working on another load unless you've got plenty on the shelf.

Sorry if this is old new. I've read some comments here and there wondering if the 162s in particular will ever be made again but had not seen this release from Hornady. In any case I think the answer is, "not for a while".

I believe they suspended just for 2014 or most of the new coming year.I think they are concentrating on the most high volume bullets for ammo first then reloading. This is just an opinion.

I'm sure that they will eventually make them again, but if like me you are looking for bullets for this coming competition season and you have a mid range gun that you've worked up with the 80Amax you better start working on a load with a different bullet unless you have enough to get you through the yr.

I know a couple of sling shooters who I think have been shooting the 162 in their RSAUMs and they may be in the same boat. Switching loads in June or July is not my first choice, that's where I want to have things pretty well dialed and on auto pilot as far as my reloading goes.

they seemed to have kept some of the oddest bullets in production while dropping some that I would think would of been in demand ie 140gn 6.5 Interloc #2630

The best bullet for me in the 22-250ai is the 60 V-Max, it's also gone for now. Have not seen any in stock in over a year.

Seems odd that the bulk of the bullets they dropped from current production are AMaxes & VMaxes. Evidently, production of the plastic tipped bullets takes enough more time that they're going to concentrate on plain old BTHPs.

Funny how people are getting all bent out of shape because Hornady makes a public statement that they are not making certain bullets right now and concentrating on bullets that they can't make enough of because the demand is so high. Don't you think all the other bullet makers are doing the same thing but they have not made a public statement to the fact. It is hard to find anything, bullets, powder or primers where I live.

Talked to Hornady in December and was told the .224 60 V-Max would be back in the lineup for 2014.
Keep the faith.

if that list is true, then sure am glad they are going to make the 178 BThp
The 178 is a nice bullet, it shoots somewhere between the 175SMK and the 185 Berger and last time I looked it cost less than both. The last time I loaded it it shot the exact same load as my 185s with a little different seating depth. It worked great for me
