Hornady Aeromatch 6mm bullets

Killing Time

I finally decided to buy some of the Hornady Aeromatch 105 gr. bullets for my 6BR, just to try them out and see how they do. Well, before even loading any to try and tune, I decided to weigh the bullets to see how consistent they were. Well, I haven’t even fired any yet I can can almost say that there is no way that they’re going to be anywhere near as consistent as my Berger 105’s or my SMK 107’s. The weight of the Aeromatch varied from 104.7 to 105.4 grains in just 10 bullets weighed. So then I weighed 10 of the Berger 105 hybrid target and 9 were 105.0 and one was 104.9 grains. I can see why the Hornady is a lot cheaper. I’ll let ya know how they shot.

Yup they are Hornady. Nuff said.

I finally got a chance to test the Hornady Aeromatch 6 mm with my 6BR this weekend, and while it did shoot good, it was no comparison to the Berger 105 hybrids. It will be a good plinking round but not something I would want to shoot competitively.

Interesting!
1/2 MOA groups are great for 'cross the course'. Many competitors go through several thousand+ rounds a year.

I have tested these areomax and you are correct for prs or other types that 1/4 moa not required they match up good. But for benchrest shooting accuracy not good enough. Internal lead problems and you’ll get fliers out of the blue. 3-10 maybe

Ok, so the Aeromatch 105 bullet is not a direct "plug-n-play" alternative for the Berger 105 bullet. Are you surprised this result runs contrary to marketing claims? I certainly am not! Hell, even different lots of Berger bullets are not direct "plug-n-play" as tweaks to the load are necessary to maintain optimal performance when switching to a different lot of the same Berger bullet.

I agree completely. I didn’t buy these bullets in hopes of replacing the Berger 105’s by any stretch. I just wanted to see how they compared to the Berger and see if the load makeup was close to the same. By velocity and SD’s, it’s pretty dang close but not so much on accuracy. But that’s about what I expected. It’ll still be a good round for the 1000 yard steel challenge I like to shoot at my local range.

Hornady states on the 105 Aeromatch web page, "No need to change your load data, die settings, or ballistic solver information — everything stays the same."

I have had good results with the Hornady 75 Match - not the newer one. I wonder why they are bothering - oh money, goddit.

I think we all know that. Anybody accepting that claim and not doing some kind of work up deserves the accuracy they get IMO that being said it was stupid for them to make that claim.

I've shot around 1500 of the 6.5 AeroMatch 140 that I worked up a load a PRS type gun and couldn't be happier.
Happy enough I'm thinking about putting one of my 6.5 x 47L improved barrels on my Panda and see what they're really capable of off a rest and bags.
