Hornady 7mm 180gr ELD match bullets

I did originally run the 180gr hybrids in my saum on 64.5grs and at about 1000 shots the barrel speeded up about 75fps making it quite hot..
Down loaded too 63.8grs and it shot ace again..
67grs was the most I tried in my saum with the 162gr amaxs...

I've got some 180gr ELDM's loaded for my 284 to use Sunday coming in 1000yds snaps and the round count is 1411 I think so I will see if they all make the target. This rifle as never blown any bullets before either...!!
The barrel gets quite hot in this format.
4 siters and 20 to count. 4 shot timed details starting at 60 seconds for the first detail then 50,40 30 and 20 seconds to put 1 shot on 4 different targets..!!!
This will be a good test for them..!!!!

I did 1000yds snapshooting today with my 284 using the 180gr ELDM's which is a fastfire shoot and including zeroing all 30 shots made to the target and they shot great too .
Next test for the ELDM'S is next Sunday in a f open league match in my 7mm saum again in the 1 in 9 twist that 2 shots didn't make the 300yds target last time out....
Fingers crossed...!!!

std7mag,
I used 162 gr A-MAX before the Eld-Ms came out as they shot better than 180 hybrids in my 284 WIN.
I have no idea weather the 162 ELD-M has the same problem as the 180 gr. I have a box of them to try next summer and I just may start shooting the 162 ELD_M!

I've not read up anything about the 162gr ELDM's or the 30 cal 225gr ELDM's blowing up which is why I asked the question on another thread as i was considering a 300wsm rebarrel not wanting to make the same mistake twice..!!

My 14 shot on my 2nd detail was a blank target. Approximately my 38th shot of the day..
I had 8 shots left after the shoot was over and all made it to the target being 5's and vbulls.....
That 1 missing shot cost me 5 points better.

7mm mag 180 ELDM 3150fps out of a 5r 9 twist ,never had any not make it to the target at 1k.

Shoot 20 shots in about 15 minutes. Wait 30 minutes then do it again. They will.

They do fine a few at a time but string fire and they will go bye bye.

It also cost me 5 or 6 places amongst a very good field of shooters..
Alternate shots here..
Rarely string shoots..
There is a comp in a few weeks where the last stage is a string shoot..
As many siters as you want and 20 to count within a certain time..
30 minutes I think.
My 1 in 8.25 barrel is going back on and I will be using the 184gr Berger hybrids..
Them 180gr ELDM's are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.!!!!

Not to question you but What kind of loads are you running, barrel length ect to get 3150fps out of your 7mm with the 180’s, is it a straight 7mm? I have two and don’t get anywhere near those velocities!

A 7mm rem mag or 7mm STW variant of some form I'd imagine..
Possibly a 7mm/270 That can push a 180 grainer over 3100fps

its a 7mm rem mag with a 30" bartlein i use RL26 69.1grs in it with cci BR2's.it is pretty hot but safe in my gun.if you are going to try it back off 2-2.5gr and work up.use cci 250 or BR2's.the BR2's shoot better.just don't use them when its cold, probly won't work good below 60 degrees.also my gun is throated long for 180s.good luck shoot straight and keep em in the 10 ring!!!!!

Thanks for the reply, just got back from the SWN, haven’t tried the RL-26 yet!

Do you think that 5R barrels could be a contributing factor vs std 4 or 6 groove barrels?
I have all the barrels you mentioned, 4, 5r, 6....and shoot several of the ELD match bullets (6mm, 6.5, 7mm, and 30).....after shooting thousands, no problems. I think the problem is long string counts and hot days. I only shoot 5 shot strings. If the bullet can't handle the punishment, then I'm like others and would not take the chance. However, for what I compete in they are great!

My coarse of fire was alternate shots.
The usual 45 seconds from when target appears to fire..
It's probaly 30 minutes plus per detail for you both so it's not fast fire shoot
