Hornady 7mm 180gr ELD match bullets

Hi all.
Are any of you still getting blow ups with these bullets..??
Anybody had any with the 30 cal 225 grainers..??

Thanks for replies..
In my f open 1 in 9 twist 7mm saum the 180gr ELDM's are doing either 2930 or 2960fps.
I may have.....!!
At the last shoot i was shooting 5's and V's at 300yds and 2 shots were not scored.. it's possible the target was shot too bits and they were missed from poor marking or they blew up..!!
The previous shoot at 1000yds they all made the target nicely. I Will keep using them for now in friendly matches and stick with the 184gr hybrids for comps and GB f class open league matches until I'm confident there not blowing up.
1 blow up would ruin my score..
Thanks No I deer

It all boils down to twist rate from what I have seen. if your running a 9 twist your pretty much good to go.
If your running a faster twist you have to keep them sub 3000fps

Probably guys that had the blowups stopped using them. I don’t think the bullet was ever changed. I hadn’t answered the post earlier because I’m in that camp.

If the question were slightly different, - has anyone resolved a prior 180 ELDM issue - I’d say that I limited use to casual .284 practice shooting instead of RSAUM use but that I have not had a blow up in a .284.

I’ve seen them blow up in a 9 twist only at around 2800fps.
Jackets are to thin for long strings of fire. Same issue Berger’s had before going to thicker jackets for the match bullets

My 1 in 9 twist is a 4 groove.
My velocity was 2960fps on 63.6grs of H1000.
Maybe the shot count of the barrel plays it part and the barrel being warn can damage the jackets on it way through..
I've seen these bullets shoot some serious accuracy..
I've never had a problem with hybrids or scenars in the same barrel..
I wonder if the amp jacket is the same thickness on the A tips..
Nobody has mentioned the A tips blowing up yet.....

I’ve shot about 600 in my casual shooting without any blow ups. 3-5 shot groups with 10-20 minutes in between groups. They are going just over 2800 fps in a 26” criterion, 1-8 twist, 284 Win.

These blows are so random..
Some coming from the same lot numbers and some from others..
It must be imperfection in the jacket as already said there too thin and maybe the length of bearing surface doesn't help either...

I switched to ELD-M 180 gr in my straight 284 with exceptional results. BUT! As soon as the weather got hot in Sacramento, I started missing scores in F Class matches with 15 shot relays. One match I was doing GREAT till I ended up with 6 empty score boxes! The folks shooting next to me actually saw some blow-ups.
I complained to Hornady and still haven't heard from them after sending them the largest part of a box of the bullets.

Thanks Norm.
I'm definately not going to use these in comps and matches now..
Stick with the hybrids..!!!

I've shot a 1000 of the 162gr amaxs through my 284 and they've been faultless and in my 26 inch 1 in 9 bartlein going around 2850 to 2900fps depending on temperatures..
Great bullet..!!

Great bullet..!!
I've shot at leas 3000 162 Amax and BTHP bullets out of a 28" barrel at 3120 fps and not a single failure. It may be the increased bearing surface of the 180 ELDMs that are causing the issue. I've shot a couple thousand 180 Berger VLDs at 300 fps without issue as well. The ELDMs may very well have a thinner jacket however.

7mm rem mag..??
I tried a few in my 7mm saum on 66 or 67grs of H1000 for 3060fps
My 284 with 53grs of RS60/Rel 17 gave the 162gr amaxs 3078fps...
