hornady 68 grain bthp match

hello everyone ,i have a question . has anyone had any luck reloading these bullets ? i read a lot of reviews with guys having hard time getting good accuracy with these ..i think ill start with varget ,any thoughts(im shooting 1-8 twist tikka 223 varmint.thanks barry

Got a box of these several years ago and started reloading with them last summer. Got good groups with IMR 8208XBR so I did not try any other powders.

Used them in AR-15 with R15 and or H322 for service rifle comp. Always shot really well for me.

I have had good results with imr 3031 and imr 8028xbr out of Savage 12fv ......I am jumping them .030
Going to try N540 because it shoots great with 69 matchkings
Good luck

I have had sub moa results using 24.2 grains of N140 and seating them @ 2.250" OAL. 1/7 and 1/8 twist barrels. This bullet only weighs 68 grains but is almost exactly the same length as Hornady's 75 grain hpbt match bullet.

Not that it helps much in today's availability, but my notes show 25gr Varget is a solid loading. Rem 7-1/2 and Winchester brass, 2.260"

As I recall, weighing each charge was the deciding factor, metering devices of the day weren't Varget "friendly"

I found good results with the 68gr BTHP at two different nodes using 24.1gr and 25.7gr RL-15, PMC brass, seated mag length @ 2.260”. Shot through an 18” White Oak SPR barrel. I can’t find my velocity log, but my data book input shows 1/2-3/4 moa results.

I also have an input logged using 25.3gr Varget @ 2.260” producing 0.70” groups. Work up, and hope you find a good one!

I've used them in a Savage 110 FP with 24" barrel in 1:9 twist that i've been shooting short range IBS, UBR type matches.
Barrel has somewhat long throat. 0.020" off the lands grouped best.
I'm running Starline 5.56 brass.
Fed 205M primer
Alliant PP2000MR powder.

Really not seeing much difference accuracy wise vs 69gr Sierra MatchKing.

Not a varmint model but my Tikka Superlite with the 1:8 twist barrel shoots the 68gr hornady into 1/2 moa groups with 24.5gr varget, winchester brass, and cci 400 @ mag length

Have you loaded the 68 Hornaday’s yet with the N540? I haven’t found any load data for that combo yet and would like to try that N540. Have had good results with IMR 8208 and H322. Just want to compare against the n540 but don’t know where to (safely) start withN540.

These shoot good for me from a 20" 7 twist barrel over Varget. They would not shoot AT ALL from my 9 twist barrel that shoots 69 SMK's lights out. I think you have to try for yourself and see if your barrel likes'em.
