hold your joystick

1 - Do you have contact with your front rest joystick when you pull the trigger?
2 - What joystick front rest do you have?
ty Don.

I've had and shot Seb Mini's. Neo's, Mini-X, Neo-X, Rodzilla T Rex, Raptors as well as Caldwell and 21st Century and on all of them I just barely let go. I am too twitchy and my hands shake so holding while pulling the trigger is a no go for me. BUT to do that, you have to have a really solid setup.

I don't even pay attention, really. I know that I can do it either way but I just do what comes and feels natural to me, which is to position the stick and relax my very light hold on the stick just before pulling the trigger. It just feels so natural that I don't have to think about it at all. I think that a properly adjusted rest can work either way just fine so I'd do whatever feels right to you and eliminate that one more thing to think about so you can focus on the flags and other factors that really do matter. I also think it's critical that the rest is properly adjusted and that's why the few people that prefer a non coax type of rest, feel the way they do, often. Of course there can be other reasons for a preference but when I talk to people that don't like their coax, if I feel of their rest, it's usually not well adjusted. Obviously, that would very likely explain their feelings. This goes for all brands. I will say that if you look at how a Raptor rest is engineered internally, that design will be very stable without holding the stick. That design is why I own one and feel like it's the best rest on the market. It's also why I can set it to where the effort to move the handle is crazy light...I can't remember the numbers but I posted it on here a while back. Using a trigger pull gauge, it was like 4 ounces to move the Raptor vs I think 1.8 lbs to move the stick on my Neo. Massive difference there.

I'm currently using the Neo-X and really happy with it. This will sound like a cop out but the Raptor, Mini-X and Neo-X all offer something different for people and you really need to get behind one to see what you like and how it fit your use. There are both great things as well as some quirks to all of them.
I wouldn't call it a cop out at all, but the truth and I agree. I'm looking forward to getting behind a new Neo X soon to try.

Kinda like actions...I'm a Borden guy but there are little things, like ejection port location and angle of a Panda over it. Splitting pretty fine hairs though. Both work fine. It's just a little thing.

The reason I ask is, If I'm running fast, I do tend to hold the stick hard vs my normal very loose hold. Barely any hold at all...and can tell no difference at all. And I just don't know how you'd know where the bullet would have gone if you had done something...you didn't do. Lol! Did you compare both ways and see a poi difference or how do you know? Again, serious question and not doubting you, just curious how it's possible to know for sure is all.

When I think about it more, if I shoot heads up, I barely hold the stick then or not at all. Just thinking here.

Holding it has saved me from a 9 at times. Rodzilla rest
Low Nines ?? I fiddled with adjusters on the back and went
back to a heavy sand bag. I know guy's swear by them softer
bags but in my heavier guns, it was squatting on the fore end.
The stick itself, once I'm on, I still hold it but very lightly. The
T-Rex's have a long stick with extra mechanical leverage. It does
feel light.....

He offers several different lengths and they can all easily be cut down. Mine is way shorter than it came but he sent two different lengths. Big reason is belly BR takes a lot longer stick than from a bench for most anyone...fwiw.

Here's a Pic of the one I use right now. As you can see, the extension is only about 3 inches long, roughly. That length works for me from a bench, well. The other thing you'll notice is the knob is not what Rod sends and he's right in being adamant that even the weight of the knob does affect the balance. I accept that and I don't feel like it's enough different to be detrimental, at least not how I have my rest adjusted. Fwiw, I did lighten that knob a whole lot, so it's pretty light but it's not as light as what he sends. Still testing but the logic is to simply steer a lot with my wrist with this knob is all, and I prefer the feel, personally. OAL of my handle is about 12 inches...fwiw.
