Hodgdon Acquires Ramshot and Accurate powders.

Some Accurate Arms grades were made in Israel at one time, but that was a really long time ago. Accurate Arms then sourced its powders from a Czech outfit (still around - it supplies Shooters World these days) until Western Powders Inc bought it. Western terminated the Czech contract and uses three sources - P B Clermont in Belgium for the Ramshot ball powders and possibly some of the Accurate grades; General Dynamics St. Marks Powder Co. in Florida for some Accurate label ball types; General Dynamics Valleyfield in Quebec Province Canada for its extruded products. (Valleyfield also makes most IMR powders for Hodgdon.)

The buy-out gives Hodgdon a strong position as the bottling / distribution and marketing outfit for Hodgdon / IMR / Winchester and now Ramshot / Accurate marques. However, it's the only family owned US concern in the business and the other two big players Alliant ATK and Nammo (Lapua-Vihtavuori-Berger) are multinational combines, especially Alliant. I suppose it also provides Hodgdon with product in the literal sense as its big problem in recent years has been getting enough Australian ADI produced extruded powder to meet demand. (You'd never guess that from threads on this forum of course! :) )
Very well put. It gives Hodgdon a very strong arm over it's competitors, Capstone and Alliant. Touche!

Thats what i was getting at- we dont produce powder here. The same guys make it all and companies buy it and package it. I wonder how bad the pucker factor is on a ship from australia full of gunpowder? @pirate ammo
A lot less than pushing a 50,000 barrel gasoline barge across Long Island Sound, even worse, a loaded hot asphalt barge.

Contrary to belief, powder is still made in the US. There’s General Dynamics in Saint Marks Florida and Redford Army Ammunition Plant in Redford Virginia. There’s also General Dynamics in Valleyfield Que. Canada.

I heard that the IMI plant in Israel had some issues so Accurate ceased buying from IMI or IMI quit selling them powder.

I said distribution. Not ownership.

Hodgdon is the distributor for Alliant.
Right you are. The press release below is worded such that they appear to be “a” distributor and not the “sole” distributor?? It’s also strange that the relationship is noted as specifically relating to 2019. They also state that they distributed for Alliant in the past. Maybe you have further insight?

"Redford Army Ammunition Plant in Redford Virginia. "

RADFORD not Redford. Also produces solid rocket fuel and I think they still make gun cotton and nitroglycerine.

My local store told me that they took over distribution and the first thing they did was raise all the prices on Alliant.

I thought I have read in the past that some powders are the same, like ramshot x-terminator and accurate 2230. There may be other examples. I wonder if the they would do away with one of them.

"Damned Autocorrect..."

It can be embarrassing at times!

ATK operated that plant from 1995-2011. One of my friends was in QC then and part of his job was testing the integrity of certain solid fuel rocket motors while in their shipping container. The object was to try every conceivable method to get them to ignite while in the container. He always told me he found the perfect job, getting paid to destroy things with everything from AP incendiary rounds to dropping the loaded containers from 50-75 feet onto a concrete pad. He never would tell me if any of them ignited.

ATK lost the contract in 2011 to another company, it was contested in court. Pretty good amount of interesting info on the web if you search Radford Army Ammunition plant. I lived in that area from 1965-1969 and again from 1976-1983, had a lot of acquaintances who worked there.
