So I guess the question to ask ourselves should be is it really hoarding or just proper planning? Would you leave on vacation knowing you didn’t have enough gas to reach your destination also knowing the gas stations may all be closed along the way?

I’m tired of the word hoarding being thrown around. Thank goodness I had enough powder and primers available to help some friends out during this period of tight distribution. Personally, I am currently testing alternative powders and sharing what I learn, as I learn it.

Components are neither readily available nor cheap but blaming it on someone else, simply because they prioritized their spending differently than you did, doesn’t make them a hoarder, it actually makes you a poor planner. Now the exception to this would be new shooters just getting into the game. We should all be trying to help them out, but anyone who has reloaded ammo for a while should have seen this coming and been prepared. History does repeat itself.

I’m sorry if this offends you as you read this, but it’s how I feel and if the truth hurts, it hurts. I have just had it with people trying to blame others for their lack of proper planning.

Dave.

Or call me a hoarder if you prefer.

If you want to continue shoot you must plan accordingly as you say and do. The ones I have disdain for are the hoarders who sell back at exorbitant prices on GB and have no intent to use the product, scalpers.

Prices and availability.
Hoarders, scalpers, high volume shooters.
Complainers are a pain in the butt.

Just how much do you PLAN on shooting?
In a year, 10 years? For those that shoot cheaper rounds a 10 cent primer seems outrageous.
Plinking .223 using range brass or larger cartridges where most of the cost is powder and bullets?
Going from 4 cents a primer to 10 cents adds 6 cents to your $1.50/round fun.
Whine about it :)
I shop to stay ahead. Way ahead. Don't like the current prices but it is what it is.
Some think that not buying will bring prices down.
I say shop and buy SMART. Don't buy from those that you don't like, at prices above the current norm.
Group up your HazMat order so it's only a couple dollars an item.

I remember thinking about mid term Trump, these are the good old days. Powder and primers were on sale with fee hazmat. I did stock up a bit, but I wish I would have bought more H4895!
I did buy a bunch of H-4895, enough to last the rest of my shooting career, I’m 62 years young.I have said this before in other posts that I have made, Mr. William Jefferson Clinton taught me to never get caught with my pants down or my reloading bin almost empty.;)

At one of the first matches I went to, even before I had my rifle, one of the shooters told me to buy as much brass, powder, primers, and bullets I could afford. They don’t go bad, they don’t go down in price, and they’re always needed.

wish I had done a better job heeding that advice.

Neil

Demand raises prices simple as that, if you have enough stock to last 6 months and not buy a single primer or pound of powder the prices will crash.
I disagree. Demand only raises prices when supply is low. Demand could double however if there is plenty of supply, the price will not rise. Heck, if there is an oversupply, demand could rise and prices could actually fall. The supply side of the equation is impacted by more than just guys who reload.

If anyone out there thinks the powder and primer manufacturers aren’t trying to produce everything they possibly can, they don’t have a good grasp of how business works. If you made widgets and knew you could sell 1,000 a day, would you purposely make less of them? If you did, the other widget makers would simply fill the void and you would give up your potential profit.

Definition: the act of collecting large amounts of something and keeping it for yourself, often in a secret place

Buying an using is not hoarding.

The way some people use the word 'hoarding' is simply intended to blame others for their not having stuff they want.
