High Power competition

I was looking for some information on High Power competition in California. Is it possible to use the AR-15 Service Rifle in competition for HP or is the only allowed gas gun the Garand and M1A? I think I already know the answer but sure would like to be wrong.

Yes the AR platform is legal in HP SR. As long as it is still a 223.

But then I would have had to have an AR-15 prior to 2000 and have registered it. I can't purchase an AR-15 with a detachable magazine in California now and I can't purchase an AR-15 out of state unless I'm a resident of that state........which I'm not. The only legal AR-15 sold in CA now are those that you load after you break the action open.

Not entirely true. There are ways to do CA-legal, new bought AR's using a so-called "Bullet Button" for mag release. There is a forum out there for California gun that has a bunch of info on the subject. A google search for bullet button turns up a lot of hits as well.
