High magnification night force scope for F class

Is there any reason to even consider an 8 - 32, or is the 12 - 42 a no brainer.

For those guys who have these, are you able to use your scope on max 42 power or do you find that you turn the power down during a match. Does that much magnification ever cause problems, or are you that stable. Ive never worked with a scope with that much magnification.

I currently have a 5-22 nxs that I will keep for general shooting. This new scope would be for F class only.

Also which reticles are you using?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

I have both and use the 12x42 the most! All depends on the day as to what power can be used. This time of the year I use 42 a good bit, in summer, 22 is about all I use due to humidity!

I use a 12-42 on 42 power most of the time. If I were buying a new scope I would buy the 42 power they are nearly the same price and the extra power will be there if you want or need it. If you already have a 32 I think it would serve you just fine. As to recticle its largely a matter of preference I like the 2DD but that's me

Had a 8-32x ( NP-2DD), and it was an excellent scope, but alongside it, preferred the 12-42x's.

As long as I'm stuck with the weight and size ( both the same), it always seemed an advantage to have the 42x. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

There were times when I could not find my shot holes at 4 & 500 yards with the 32x, but spotted them easily with the 42x.

We do have mirage problems here ( SW Pa.) in the Summer, but not to the extreme, and when the mirage is present, 35x is usually the best choice, for me.

Have three with the NP-2DD reticles, then bought my first (used, but cannot be told from new), with the NP-R2 & like them both. Can't say either one is the favorite.

Excellent scopes and another example of the saying, "you get what you pay for". ;)
p.s.: Do use it at 42x, can see 6mm shot holes, but that depends on the mirage conditions.

I would recomend a variable power scope or one in the 20-24 power range as mirrage is brutal on higher powers.
