High end vs. lower end rifle scopes

To me low end would cover most scopes under $250. High end would be greater than $1k. Lots of middle ground!

Agreed! Let me add that middle ground covers alot of scopes sold today. But as good as some of those "Middle Ground" scopes are, they still lack the clarity that the "High end" scopes provide.

Would love to know the context for this saying. You can buy a lot of cheap scopes before you hit the break even point on a NightForce, lol.

when the $39.95 ( insert cheap scope brand here ) scope fails on a once in a lifetime $5000 or $10000 hunting trip .

Does the shooting discipline move the needles around, i.e. competition bench rest vs prone vs non-competition?

There is a wide margin in price between a Sightron III and a Nightforce. Can they be mentioned in the same breath in terms of optical clarity?

Where does the Vortex Viper series or Sightron S2/big sky fit in? I've always considered the viper line to be a solid mid range scope but when comparing to $2k+ scopes would it be considered "low end"?
If you consider moving the needles around by turning the turrets, then I turn the turrets for 1000 yard BR and LR hunting. A scope has to track reliably and also hold point of impact. If a scope can't hold POI it can cost you a lot. Trophy of a lifetime or a match. Recoil and muzzle brakes can be hard on scopes.

I believe the Sightron S111 is as clear as a Nightforce. They have really good glass for the money. Maybe not as good as a Competition but very close. I also consider the Sightron S111 price at the lower end cost wise of quality scopes. You really need to look through one before you make judgment. Dollar wise it probably is the best scope for the buck. I have the 3 models of Nightforce, Leupold Mark4, Leupold LRT, and Sightron S111 and that is what I made my comparison on. Matt
