I've had nothing but positive experiences buying from members here. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I have even sold things and shipped before funds were received and have found that the members that I have dealt with are some of the most upstanding people that I have never met. Big thumbs up to most members here.
 
One thing I'd like to say here regarding payment. If at all possible, use PayPal goods and services for purchases. Yes, it costs a few bucks( 3% ) more depending on purchase price of item, but the piece of mind you get in return is priceless. I was scammed on a less than 100.00 item. The seller asked that I use PP family & friends so I did. Not knowing the purchase wasn't insured by PP using F&F. I now strictly use G&S when using PP. If PP is linked to an account at your bank, the 3% fee is waved. Money orders and checks are as bad as PP F&F. Once they are cashed, you lose. Just be smarter than the other guy. 99.9% of the sellers/buyer's here are completely honest and safe.
 
It ain't rocket science, look at the guys profile and give them your phone number and get theirs and talk to them. You can tell in 3 minutes if the guy is legit. The shooting community ain't that big, most everyone knows someone you know, and sometimes you just take a chance. This is a good bunch fokes and I have dealt with them for 8 or 10 yrs.
BUT, I still think you should be a gold member to sell anything over a hundred bucks....

It does take a little common sense. Maybe limit noebs to a dollar amount so folks that don't use common sense won't get hit so hard..

Several years ago I was in the process of buying a high dollar trap shotgun from a gentleman in Chicago. We exchanged PM's and emails in which he explained that he worked for Caterpillar in Chicago. He went on to explain that he had been through several short term layoffs with Caterpillar and with two young children he couldn't afford to shoot trap anymore. I asked for a phone number so we could talk, the area code of which was in Chicago. I called the next day, his wife answered and told me he was at work, which I asked if it was Caterpillar, she said yes. At one point in our brief conversation I heard two young children trying to get their mom's attention. I asked her to have her husband call me later in the evening which he did. We had a thirty minute conversation during which it was easy to see he was indeed a trap shooter and knew about the shotgun and various aspects about it.
A couple of points here, first the area code checked out for where he said he lived. second his wife verified my snap question that he worked for Caterpillar and third, hearing a couple of children vying for the mom's attention verified the bit of reasoning for his selling the shotgun.
The pucker factor was still up a bit when I mailed off a $6K check but when I received a gorgeous Kolar trap combo shotgun I relaxed, called the gent and thanked him for the deal.
Take the time to do some investigation, ask questions. Talk to the seller, does he know his shit about the item and how he used it? If something doesn't add up or makes you suspect, ask more questions. If things still make you nervous, walk away.
ONLY ONE PERSON IS GOING TO WATCH OUT FOR YOU...AND THAT'S YOU!

:rolleyes:...almost 10 years as a member, made over 1800 posts (and a purchase in the classifieds), makes NO donations to the website, yet comments on how site should be administered...:rolleyes:

I greatly appreciate the hard work admin puts in to provide classified ads for us. It's a nice perk. A lot of good people giving good deals. Nothing wrong with the classifieds. This thread is basically telling everyone to be careful or it's your own fault. If a person does't like or use the classifieds, then there is absolutely NO reason for that person to comment here.

Another simple check is to search the posts of the seller on this forum. A quick google search of several of theallcineyes posts revealed that they were simply cut and paste plagiarizations.
 
Sometimes I forget to leave feedback,,sometimes I come up with strange posts,correct that,a lot of times I come up with strange posts.When selling I always post my phone number,
and my website is listed also.We also take pencils and crayons as payment on some stuff.

Right! I probably get on peoples nerves with too much communication selling. I send lots of pics and always send a pic of the package with the shipping label applied to make sure its right and sometimes a follow up PM or text to make sure they're happy with the item. Not everyone has left me feedback, maybe they were displeased.

Unfortunately that is not necessarily true. A couple Silver members tried to pull scams. Guess they figured the $20 was worth it. As for IP info, I have that for ALL members. But the scammers do tend to use VPNs.

We do NOT have your Credit Card info. That is encrypted and held through PayPal.

I am thinking of limiting sales, as least for firearms, actions, and optics, to Paying Members Only.

I read most of cineyes stuff, Does this forum screen out coyotes - this guy is a master predator - frequent one liners, claims to know about a huge variety of stuff from prone shooting coats, .17 caliber rifles, optics, and a driving barrage of sympathetic or being one of the group one liners. Sometimes 20 posts per day. A photo of some expensive rifle displayed in what looks like an upscale gun room. Prairie dogs to deers in the NE forests. Something for everybody. Acquire trust.

Should be in jail, probably been doing this since age 6. not stupid

He's doing what he knows best. In career LE jobs, dealing with criminals or convicts, people are taught about the anatomy of a set up. Guys like him know how to throw the lure out and get the fish to follow it then he just waits for the hook set. When someone buys his BS completely, his goal is accomplished. They usually throw all caution to the wind knowing this guy has the knowledge of most here in this site and sounds genuine. We're all potential victims, even those that believe their exempt due to the "No way someone will get me" mentality. I worked for 35 years in LE with criminals/convicts, felons, con men, etc. I thought I would never let someone get down in me like this. Well, it happened right here on this site by one of these predators. Trust beat me. It gets everyone eventually today. Today's world isn't like it used to be. Social media, electronic funds and just plain old fashion greed and criminal mentality. Caution is the theme today when dealing people and money.
 
This site is kind of a refuge for good fokes, kind of a community if you will. I know there are bad people out there but I refuse to let them cloud my trust of the community as a whole. If after talking to them and trusting my judgement they rip me off, then that's on them. If they can live with it, hell, I can live without it.....
