Good deal all the way around as far as I'm concerned. Yes, it will (probably) lower the total number of guns to the line, yes, it will eliminate the "gaming", as in 4 or 5 shooters a relay apart doping one certain rifle, and yes, the new rules will pizz some people off. So be it. Hopefully, word will get around about this great match, and as Rebel said, we'll have more guys showing up with their "real" groundhog rifles to shoot the match.
I'd love to see a box stock, bought off the shelf, rifle of some sort win the overall match!
From (my) bold of your post:
-I don't think the new rules will "pizz" anybody off... Few (like me) might be little disappointed they can't shoot more (nearing 6hr round trip is a long way to go to shoot 9 times). However, I think anybody will agree it will be more "fair" - but I predict you see the same people near the top nerveless... I can think back to several different years where the match was won out of Relay 1. Hard to say somebody shot those guns in for 'em. Actually I can think of several guys that have won or been in top 3 either solely or first on the gun. The "team" thing sounds good (and is an easy excuse) but usually doesn't work out as good as it sounds (at least for majority) - good shooters will shoot good but yes, an average shooter going last in a "series" of shooters will do way better than an average shooter alone. Overall, I think most will like the change/different of rules; it will definitely be interesting...
-I totally agree. If anyone is on the fence, they should come out & shoot the match. It really is a VERY fun format & plenty challenging.
-If you remember back several years ago... A "box stock" factory LRPV in 223Rem, DID win the entire/overall match.
