as stated

buddy got a Henry 17HMR Varmint express H001V with groove 3/8 scope mount.
thinking of using leupold one piece groove ring combo.

thinking.of putting on a leupold rimfire 2-7 or 3x9 or up for other recomendations?

mostly for plinking local squirrels and groundhogs.

How far? How much wind?

I shoot around 3,000 rounds of HMR each year on prairie dogs. I like a lot more magnification and some hash marks for elevation and windage. I don't dial. Look at the wind drift on the 17 HMR at 200 yards with a 10mph crosswind. I shoot that shot every day when hunting prairie dogs.

it is on. could have used high see through or QD but i hate open sights. aka ,no good with them with a rifle.
pistol,revolver...fine.
shitty shotgun shooter.

has moa holdover lines.

guess it is time for the range.

Looks good but it seems like that scope is way far back to me, but I’m 6’2” with a big ol head….lol

Here’s a pic of the scope on my Henry. It’s a Big Boy 44 Mag though.

you may be right? it was the best position i could put it in while secure in the tri pod and clear the hammer, Talley low.

i will have to remove from tripod and try?
if it dont feel right.
i will have to get higher mounts to move fwd and up. if i have to do that i have 2 choices i can think of

1. QD medium
2. or see through

to access open sights. goal was to mount as low as possible.

that hammer tang should have been layed back below the top of reciever like yours20230107_174511.jpg

Mark , can you measure butt to ocular for me. i tried it and it works well where it is.

I got 10" and freehand ,eye relief is spot on for me and i am a big dude too ! lol.

i dont think i can move it where yours is.
very curious now?

@Rem06 mine almost exactly 11” from the ocular to butt pad. Looking at it closer and I think you’re right in that you can’t run yours where mine is because of the scope interfering with the hammer. If it fits you and feels good is all that matters. I always prefer my scopes to fall just a hair forward of perfect because it’s easier to move my head forward than backward to get the right sight picture.

Edit to add that you might want to get a hammer extension as well. It always helps with a scoped lever gun.

thanks! i am back as far as i can and keep the rings @ 1/8" or so from bell and dial, i bet with tha hammer extention i can get up to 1" more fwd. i left it back for my fat thumb!
the CH are still canted a tad, i have to straighten them out, i will move it fwd @ 1/2" too. i got a good inch and half from the front sight.

Now i just would like to add a pop open cap cover for the Objective. i can order that with the extention.

then OFF TO THE RANGE! WOOHOO!
