HELP WITH TWIST

OK GUY'S need help picking correct twist!!!

Ready to order a new barrel for my AR15. It's a Krieger 24" .920 dia, 223 Match Chamber.

The only bullets that will go down the tube are 40 & 50 gr VMAX OR BLITZ KING, 3400 T0 3600 fps.

1 in 12 or 1 in 14??????????

This is a dedicated Prairie Dog rifle, 400 yds max range. I have other rifles in faster twist for the heavier bullets.

I believe the 1:14 will give you max velocity but 1:12 will give you the option of going to a heavier bullet if you ever wanted to. SPM

My choice would be a 14 twist, but either that or 12 twist will do the job. With a 14 twist you'll have no problem with 50 gr bullets. I've shot thousands of 50BalTips very accurately through 14 twist .223 barrels......that bullet is the same length as the 50BlitzKing, and a bit longer than a 50VMax, and I've shot a whole bunch of them too. Through that same 14twist .223 I've shot 55BlitzKings - the one that people say won't work in a 14"twist - and they were pretty accurate.

Also, don't limit yourself. There are lots and lots of bullets that cost much less than the more fashionable plastic-tipped stuff, shoot just as well and are very explosive. Sierra make a bunch of varmint bullets......the Blitz is inexpensive and can be just unreal accurate. Also the Speer 50TNT and 52HP are really good. Remington makes a 50PSP that's cheap, also accurate and very explosive, and you'll never see it mentioned. That's just a few, there are a whole bunch of others. Have some fun trying different things.
