1:14 Twist Rate

I have a Cooper Montana Varminter in 6mmbr, the twist rate is 1:14. Ive been unable to locate any information concerning bullets to use with this twist rate, im sure it needs to be a heavier bullet of some sort. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. James

James, with a 1:14" twist, you should be looking at the various Benchrest bullets in the 62 to 68 grain range. There are some truly extraordinary bullets made in that weight range - you'll have a big smile on your face when you're done shooting!

I have a 1:14 6BR with a .265 neck diameter. I've had excellent results with Hornady 65grn. V-Maxes. I've tried more expensive benchrest bullets and found the V-Maxes to be as good as if not better.

Actually, just the opposite. 1:14 is a rather slow twist and you will have stability problems with heavier, longer) bullets.
Berger has twist recomendations on his web site for various bullet weights.

i have shot the 75gr hornady in a 14 twist 28in. broughton and it seems to do ok. i have kept it in the 3in. mark the few times i tried 600yds

My 20 inch 1 in 14 twist Hart barreled ground hog XP-100 absolutely LOVES the 66 grain Fowler flat base bullet over 32.5 grains of Varget with the 7 1/2 Remington primer.
Next up is the 55 grain Ballistic Tip and H-322 and 7 1/2's again, but it looses about half the accuracy, and it still shoots better than I can.

Got to agree with you there. My brother's 6mm PPC Stolle with a .262" neck and 1:14 Kreiger has grouped as good as .207" with 65gn VMax's,5 shots). It generally gets 5 shots in .3" at 100m and it hasn't done any better with any other projectiles except Fowlers which it loves.

Matt.
