Help with top 10-20 causes of death in US

As noted above, the Governor of Virginia stated that there are 93,000,000 deaths per DAY caused by guns. I'm sure the governor would not lie so he must just be confused.

Seymore,

Sorry I disturbed you. I got my number, 98,000 from the U.S.Justice department who in part was quoting a 1999 paper by the Institute of medicine which was later modified to 210,000 to 410,000 per year in 2014. And these are all mentioned in a "Scientific American" article below. I like statistics. Unfortunately I'm an engineer and I don't really like emotional info!

Norm, no harm/no foul. Will read your SciAm article with predjudice, as fired them 1983 when they published the first pseudo-scientific article promising that the HMO concept, though creating an adversarial relationship between doctor and patient, was the politically correct solution to rising medical costs. Here's a statistic from the US Department of Common Sense : 97% of sentient humans abhor HMO's. if you regard output from the Justice Dept as believable, statistically what percentage of the time will you be proven wrong. It is time-consuming to ferret out solid meaningful stats from all the political massaging of numbers to steer the general public to support certain policies. This is propaganda. If you don't like emotional info, or emotions in general, you really won't like being the victim of propaganda. Might as wel try "Shadow Stats" via your favorite search engine. Fellow has no political or monetary axe to grind, and is very objective. I prefer the qualitative side of the street. Seymour

The Oregonian is very (insert whatever the term is for city dwellers that leave out information so the data supports their opinion here). I was in college before I realized the Oregonian wrote stories to support the opinions of the Portland, Eugene, and Salem elite. Whatever fit the political flavor of the month. Not saying what they have is untruth....saying "what did they leave out"?

A recent poll indicates that the number of drownings increase as the summer temperatures increase.
Another poll indicates that the sales of ice cream increases as the summer temperatures increase.
The Oregonian view would be to compare the number of drownings and sales of ice cream. As sales of ice cream goes up, so do the number of drownings. Ice cream causes drownings.

Grew up with that kind of journalism and had lots of banter with some of the writers............
