Norm, no harm/no foul. Will read your SciAm article with predjudice, as fired them 1983 when they published the first pseudo-scientific article promising that the HMO concept, though creating an adversarial relationship between doctor and patient, was the politically correct solution to rising medical costs. Here's a statistic from the US Department of Common Sense : 97% of sentient humans abhor HMO's. if you regard output from the Justice Dept as believable, statistically what percentage of the time will you be proven wrong. It is time-consuming to ferret out solid meaningful stats from all the political massaging of numbers to steer the general public to support certain policies. This is propaganda. If you don't like emotional info, or emotions in general, you really won't like being the victim of propaganda. Might as wel try "Shadow Stats" via your favorite search engine. Fellow has no political or monetary axe to grind, and is very objective. I prefer the qualitative side of the street. SeymourSeymore,
Sorry I disturbed you. I got my number, 98,000 from the U.S.Justice department who in part was quoting a 1999 paper by the Institute of medicine which was later modified to 210,000 to 410,000 per year in 2014. And these are all mentioned in a "Scientific American" article below. I like statistics. Unfortunately I'm an engineer and I don't really like emotional info!
