Help with the 30 BR

You need to answer a few questions about your rifle before you can ask questions about your dies. What is neck diameter of your chamber? What are dimensions of your chamber? And what the heck is a 30 BR Remington designation? Who manufactured your dies? Other than breaking in your barrel with some free components why are you using someone else's brass bullets and scope? Putting bullets down your bore should always be a way of obtaining information about what your rig is capable of doing with your own scope, scope mounts, reloading technique, etc., etc., etc.,.!!
.330 NK, going to have a smith do the dimensions and fb, 30 BR remington is what Redding calls it, Redding, Because I didn't have my stuff and left town before it all got in but I have a new gun I wanted to shoot, so I'm working on the answers to all your questions, I have a good idea of where I'm going with it. Thanks, shooter13

Redding dies are great! Turn those case necks to .010" fireform then turn one more time taking a .0003", then fireform one more time. Size with a .326" or .325" bushing and trim all cases before doing load work. I've got over 2200 rounds on one of my 30 BR's and the barrel looks like new through my bore scope. It's still shooting great too! Yesterday I shot two .150" groups and one .190". I shoot UBR with it and use LT30 powder.

Thanks for the info! That is where I'm headed but I had H4198 powder so will ne using that with hillbilly bullets, I too will be shooting UBR

When fireforming are you using the powder and bullets you’ll shoot a match with or something cheap?
Use the el cheapos. Save your match bullets for your matches. I just finished fire forming some new 30 BR brass and it came out fantastically concentric. I expanded to .257 first, then to 6.5, then 7mm, and finally to 30. I have found taking the extra time to expand in these increments produces superior concentricity!!

What about powder? I’ve heard Varget and some others work well for ff

You can FF with RE7, Benchmark or the old AA2015BR if you don't want to use your 4198. I FF at matches usually the warm-up match. I've never heard anyone use Varget in a 30BR.

I'm glad to hear that since I basically just did the same process. I'm new to the 30BR.

This will be my first go around with them, I did the one step method so will let you know how it goes, I have 100 ready to go when I get home, find some cheap bullets and powder and go for it!

Prepping some new brass for my 30BR. I found some extra 110 gr. FMJ 30 carbine bullets I had put away. Have you ever used this bullet/type for the initial fire forming.
Thanks,
Tim

Don't reinvent them wheel. H4198, end of story. I am using brass I made in 2007, still works fine. I anneal every firing. You think Lapua wants your brass to last forever?

Jeff, this was from last year when I first started, been using 4198 ever sense. Did pretty well for a first year shooter, working with a new gun (30BR) and this one sure has to get better!!! LOL

I used an 86gr 30 mauser one time and yes I have used the 30 gr. carbine. That first fireform is nothing but wasted time at the range. Listen to your favorite music, maybe Jazz and enjoy the lost time! LOL!

Appreciate your insight. I just didn't want to waste match bullets when I had these. Did you use a reduced load.

Thanks,
Tim
