Help with Remington 700 action

If notching the action is required for the Creedmoor, why don’t other cartridges nearing max magazine length require the same thing? Shape of the case?

Seems the front of the case should get directed off the rails a bit by the magazine and be pointing in a more favorable position before the bolt travels forward.

I have a creedmoor barrel going in a long action with magazine spacer, so I’ll find out soon.

I have a Remington 700 SA in 7mm SAW that i load to 2.960 in a chassis. i use the ACIS mags with no binder plate. But i cut into the action so it will feed reliably.

The 6.5 Creedmoor doesn't need a notch in the short action M700. The over all length by design was limited by magazine length of the short action as other cartridge such as the 308 Winchester. And all factory 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition should and will feed without the notch.

With that said, some shooters (myself included) have found better loads seating some bullets farther out that will not fit in a standard magazine. AI and MDS are at least two that sell magazines with the binder plate removed which allow longer seating depth. But that longer reach may hang the bullet tip on the underside of the receiver action and therefore fail to feed. In comes the notch, which removes a small amount of metal from the lower side of the receiver and allows the bullet tip to pass from the magazine onto the ramp and into the chamber.

I did some seating depth experimenting firing single rounds and found there was an advantage for me, so order binder plateless magazines and notched out the underside to allow for longer seating. It's easy, but not necessary if one is shooting factory ammunition or making there own loads within the overall length of SAMMI specs.
