Help with first tripod

The RRS leveling head is better for a wider variety of shooting positions. For my needs the supplied bowl works fine.

Good Morning Gentlemen,

I'm a daily lurker and infrequent poster.

I use a Manfroto 055 for photography work with both gimble and ball head mounts.
It supports my Nikon pretty well, even when it's wearing a 6.5lb. Sigma 150-600 lens and teleconverter
It's a nice tripod though I've never mounted a rifle on it.

90% of my shooting is BPCR Silhouette or BPTR and tripods aren't in the rule book.

This may ruffle some feathers, it's not my intention to do so.

Amazon sold / sells a tripod similar to this one without the pistol grip mount.

A number of years ago I bought one for use with my spotting scope.
It's HEAVY and strong. Many of the reviews alluded to Russian tanks.
It's much "stiffer" than my Manfroto and supports more weight.
It's never blown over, be it at Ridgway or here on the N Atlantic during a 'noreaster.
If the OP is interested, I'll search my past amazon orders and get an exact part number.
I feel it's a lot of tripod for very short money.

Hope this helps.

Craig
This was my first tripod, I would not suggest it for shooting. It's heavy, and the head doesn't work with Arca so you wouldn't be able to mount a gun. Plus the pistol grip won't work with anything heavy. Might be OK for glassing or photography but not for the shooting sports.

For low cost I would suggest the ShadowTech Pig Tripod. I have one of these and it works well for shooting from. Main downside is it's aluminum and heavy. Throw a low cost ball head on it and should be a good starting point.

I run an Innorel. Not sure the model but it has large diameter carbon fiber legs. Use it for matches 3 out of four weekends a month during shooting season. Very heavy duty.

Look on amazon for innorel and check the reviews for one of the higher rated. Think I paid 300-350?

So pretty much settled on the innorel tripod, but I’m curious as to what head is recommended for target, and hunting? Leveling base, ball head?

Above is a manfrotto 055 with a “pig” saddle, little brother to the Hogg saddle, holding a 14lb 6.5x47. My son has shot to 900 yards with this setup on steel. His girlfriend shot her first deer last year with the exact setup at 335 yards, DRT...

I use a Field Optics Research tripod for both PRS and hunting. They are decent for the price. The OD of the legs on mine if large and it is very stable. I got one at a match so I ran it an have been satisfied with t. For comps I use an ARC head and rail. For hunting I use the Triclawps head. It is very nice for hunting rifles. I shot my cow at 675 yards on the trot with 30 seconds set up time this year. Very good setup for hunting.

Does anyone have feedback on the Reaper Grip? I’ve been thinking about trying this setup... https://kjrests.com/products/3607/kopfjager-k700-amt-tripod-with-reaper-grip/

I’m quoting myself to say that I pulled the trigger on the reaper grip and tripod combo that I linked above. It came very well packaged and appears to be a quality product in every way although I have no comparison to baseline against.
It locks up nice and tight and holds all different shaped rifles very solid and the tripod is stronger than I expected. I’m going to check zero on a couple of rifles tomorrow and then do a couple of calling sets about dark tomorrow and see if I can get lucky. I’ve been hearing a couple of packs across the road from my house.
