Help with EGW Picatinny Savage base...

I got a new EGW Picatinny scope base for my Savage 110 long action flat back receiver yesterday. When I installed the rear screws the front end of the base hovers about .030" over the action. I can spring it like a diving board. What's the proper fix? Do I have to bed the front end of the base or stone the rear to bring the front down?

Also, what is considered the precision surface that I need to level my action to when installing the scope?

How much mislaignment is okay? I have a kokopelli scope mounting kit and I got the rings lapped in nicely. When I installed the alignment bars, the long rod that tells you if the scope is in line with the bore indicated that there's a slight angle to the right in relation to the barrel. It's not gross, but it's there. When I look over the top of the barrel, the alignment rod is angled to the right but doesn't overhang the barrel.

Since it's a picatinny base, I can't adjust the yaw of the base so I guess I'll have to settle for the misalignment. Any comments or suggestions on this one? The ring alignment bars line up perfectly. :D

Thanks,
Tony.

You need to check and be sure you have the correct base for your rifle.. I for one would not use it as it is if I'm understanding you right.. If it's springing like a diving board, the only correct cure is a new one that fits..
Usually the precision surface to level to, would be the bolt raceway..

The box was labeled correctly and I remember reading some markings on the bottom of the scope base and they seemed to coincide with the box. I can verify today when I get home. I guess if the mount is angled down when snug it would make the rifle shoot a little high which might be nice to shoot longer. What is the best scope base that allows me to perfectly align the in all axis'?

I can probably shim the front or stone the back to fit the scope perfectly and I am willing to do that if I have to. If it comes to getting a replacement base, I'm willing to go with a different type of base. I really don't want a 2 piece and prefer a one-piece. I take it people may prefer round base Savages to avoid these kind of fitting issues? At this point I don't know if the mount is out of spec or the receiver. It's from the mid-80's.

I'd like to do it right the first time instead of doing it over a second time.

Are these common problems for flat-base Savages?

Thanks. I used a .005" shim in the front and one in the back and somehow everything is now in agreement. It will work for now, but I'm going with a different mount so no point in bedding until I make the change.

Tony.
