Help with 6ppc reloading

I inherited a .6ppc from dad several years back and I would like to start shooting this gun some. It's a Remington 700 action and the only stamping on the barrel is .262 neck and .6ppc. I would have to go through some stuff to see if he had bought any dies etc for the gun. I know there is 100 pieces of new .220 brass for it though and some 68 grain bullets. I guess my question is how do I determine the oal of the case and bullet seating depth of the gun, without having some fired rounds to go off of. I believe my dad was gathering up all the pieces to start shooting the gun before he passed away so I'm not sure if he has everything or not. I don't care to spend money on something I need. I just want to shoot the gun some and go to a couple shoots or something. Thanks for any help.

If the cases are longer than 1.490 after firing trim them to 1.490. Turn the necks to .0085. Best thing to do is send that brass to dj’s brass and he will turn the necks and hydroform them. They will be ready to load and shoot at that point. Get your sizing die from harrels to start with and get a 6ppc seater from wilson tool. Find some H322, xmr8208, n133 powder to get goin

Would you fire form with a standard length case and .22 bullet or put wax over the end and then shoot. Would I then trim the case and turn the neck. I know I have a case trimmer and a neck turning tool. I did spend many hours at the reloading bench with my dad. We did a lot of .22 ppc stuff together and more common rifle calibers in .222, .223 and .22-250. I'm just trying to get the steps in order and do it right the first time.

Don’t shoot a 22 bullet if it’s a 6ppc barrel you want to use.

There are several fire forming options and they are all effective.

Given your situation, I’d send the brass to DJs and let him make you some good brass to get started. Then you can decide if you want to do your own fire forming and turning and whatnot.

How is sending the brass to him going to fit my rifle. I was always under the impression that no two reamers were alike and there was always going to be a slight variation in chamber difference or when the reamer starts to dull some. I thought this is the reasoning to fire forming the brass. I apologize for the ignorance, just trying to understand.

If you full length size with the proper die afterward it should be a good fit.

Thanks for the tips. I need to make a correction, I was confused on the rifles and I got it out last night and looked at it, It's a cps action and barreled set up, I'm not sure if this would help somebody with the chambering.
