help with 6br build

i have a surgeon rsr action with a murphy precision rain. also have a 8x32 nsx.
i think i am going to build a 6br.
i need help on barrel
any maker stand out for this chamber?
and what about barrel lenth?
rifle will be for hunting.
only shooting 87grain v-max and 105's berger/a-max
thanks for the help

Krieger 6mm 1-7.5 twist or 1-8 twist, for hunting only then Remington Varmint contour would be enough, my 6BR has HV contour and it's way to heavy to carry for hunting.

for lenght, 26" is enough if it's just for hunting.

as for reamer the 6mm BR Norma is great, just buy Lapua brass and you're good to go.. no trimming, neck turning or anything.

dansig,
thaks for your reply.
if i go with a 26" barrel am i giving up any possible velocity?
i have had wonderful results with my krieger barrel on a 7mm STW
i have a bartlien 4 groove 1-7.5 twist. would the 4 groove work with the 6br
or is it better to go with the krieger?

when i said the rifle is for hunting, i did not mean that it does not have to be accurate. not the case at all
this project is coming about because of a barreled action i bought from this site that is a piece of crap

I wouldn't worry about any of the top tier barrels, the hard part is trying to get one......

Obviously, it's not going to be a "carry" type gun if you're going to stick a NXS on top. Even then, I wouldn't go over a Remington Varmint contour, and 24" is plenty. The stock comes into play in the overall scheme as well.......

alf,
thanks for your reply.
no it will not be a carry gun.
as far as stock i have a manners t3, but may go with something else.
i just want to be sure i am using the best possible parts to have the results i want
what stock are you thinking on this? i am left handed, but never had a left hand gun

While I haven't had any Manners stocks, the T3 looks like a good one for your new build.

Looks like you're on the right track parts wise, a good smith is still the wild card.....

You aren't losing any velocity that matters with 26" barrel, but for shooting 1000 yards it's better to go full 30", but that's just to long for hunting.

thanks guy.
i had a 30" on a 22-6mm and this pile of crap i got on this site. both were way to heavy. i cut a few inches off the 22-6mm to make it better. but it got stole 2 years ago.
the 30" i have now i have no idea what to do with is shoots so poor.
as soon as i get back in the U.S. OF A i will start trying to find another 6mm barrel and go from there

Check http://www.bugholes.com/barrels.php and see if they have the barrel you want once you have decided. They usually stock a pretty good inventory of 6 mm barrels from three manufacturers. I have purchased about 10 barrels from them in the last 2 years, if I want a barrel they do not have in stock I have them custom order it for me, the price is the same and they get it faster.

Grizzly stocks a good supply or Bartleins and Brunos has an inventory of barrels on the shelf too,

220,
You really dont need a 7.5 twist with the 105-108 gr. bullets. A 7.5 is really only needed for the 115's and I dont know if that is really worth while in a straight 6BR. An 8 twist barrel would be perfect for your needs, and there are plenty of places to find them.
Grizzly tool (Bartlein)
Brunos (Krieger)
Bugholes.com (Brux,Rock Creek, Obermeyer, adn Krieger)
Third Generation Shooters supply (Krieger&Benchmark)

You could sell the 7.5 and buy the 8 if you wanted to.

John

i am going to see about ordering a barrel while i am still in kazakhstan working
maybe it can be threaded and chambered by the time i get home.
i will but the 7.5 twist bartlien 4 groove forsale then it has less than 600 rounds thru it

Load developement should be straight forward. Set free-bore to coincide w/ bullets you intend to shoot to optimize seating depth & powder capacity.

Talk directly to dave kiff and have him grind a reamer to the specs of the bullet you intend to use so when the bullet is seated against the rifling the bullet wont be below the neck juncture of the case. His reamers are the best ones and lead time isnt horrible. Then once you have the finish reamer it is yours and you can have any barrel exactly the way you need it to be machined.
