Help with .284 Win. load - please

Hey guys,

Just about finished with a .284 Win. build for my son. Will be shooting the Berger 168 VLD in Win. brass. What's your favorite load with H4831? What speed are you getting? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Paul

Hey Paul,

I ran out of case capacity with H4831SC and 180 Hybrids. I think I had a really slow lot of powder.

When I changed to H4350, the magic happened.

You might consider that as a backup powder if 4831 doesn't pan out.

Paul I didn't try any 4831. I had both RL17 and H4350, just like busdriver said I too had better accuracy with the H4350. I have 53gr.s with Berger 168's right at 2900 fps. They are about .010 off jam and shoot very well.

I almost gave up until a friend told me to use RL17, and that I would probably like it. Well, he was RIGHT!

My 284 chrono report

Series 1 Shots: 4
Min 2920
Max 2922

Lapua Brass, .050 off the lands

Put together a 24" sporter 284 win just last week. Using 168 VLD with RL-17. OAL is 3.050" with bullets .015" into lands. Accurate load is 51 gr for velocity of 2860 fps.
