Help, what shooting rest do you use.

How bout this rest, anyone have one of these:

I have a older model of this and it works fine, I sure like the speedo cable horizontal adjustment right where you make your vertical adjustments. I personally use a Fulghum rest and like it a lot.

Best of luck in your decision.

I have an original Bald Eagle that I added the cable to. Works well. I also have a JAK joystick rest that I like also.

I bought one last winter when the price was higher :( I bought it for my wife to try because the windage cable is closer to reach than the screw on my Sinclair. She likes this rest a lot. Perhaps not a custom rig, but a pretty decent rest. I just ordered an aluminum one to try. If it stays put, will be easier for her to tote and set up. Also, the lighter one would be handier for varmint hunting and hauling around in the truck with a portable bench. I disassembled the cast iron one a couple nights ago for cleaning and lubrication. The threaded/slotted mariner wheel shaft had steel chips left on it from manufacturing. I blew those off and lubricated the threads. The windage unit is spring loaded one direction with some pretty stiff springs. That being said, it would not move all the way to the right. I took the side plates off, cleaned and lubricated the mating/sliding surfaces. It now moves fully right as it should. The Mrs. will be really happy with it next time out! I don't see how you can go wrong for the money.

I use the John Loh front rest: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/tag/john-loh/

I just bought one of these. I've only used it in 2 matches. It does seem to be very stable. As Timeout said you will have to show it some love. I always take things apart anyway so cleaning up some of the quality control overlooks was no be deal. As stated before a great rest for the money. HTH, Alan

Very few user reports on the windage model with the cable system. IF the cable sytem has virtually NO hysteresis and therefore tracks positively with each adjustment ...it will be a winner.

: the lagging of a physical effect on a body behind its cause (as behind changed forces and conditions) <all manometers must be tested for hysteresis as well as for sensitivity and natural frequency—H. D. Green>
Wow, you learn something everyday! Also some other definitions listed. This was the only one that I could possibly associate to the cable windage system. On the farm we would have said that there was "slop" in the system. Then again I could not carry on a conversation with a former classmate after he had taken his first year of law school! ;D

Oh and by the way, there is no hysteresis in my Bald Eagle rest's cable windage system.

timeout........that word had appeared on this forum many times in the past. One instance I recall was pertaining to a Sinclair Speed Screw which had "slop" and caused me to loose a bunch of points one season. I relayed my story to a site member who was getting mysterious shots that would drop for no apparent reason.....end result - his speed screw had the same problem. A few years ago the problem was widely known in BR circles.

I don't know what you mean by "many" times, as to the appearance of the word "hysteresis", but I assure you its occurrence on this forum is far below that of the misspelling of "lose". Although, I suppose if your rest is sloppy and loose, you would lose points. ;)

Dave I just bought that exact same rest. Been playing with it and it's a really fine machine. I give it two thumbs up. Came supper fast too. I bought it around 10pm and it arrived the next day!

There is a slight delay but it's just the cable flexing. Windage racks better then elevation does. Maybe I should do a video review.

And you don't foresee that as a problem in your intended use?

Personally , for myself I would opt for non adjustable windage before I went with one that was adjustable but had the dreaded hysteresis... Not to be confused with hysterectomy which in fact would mean you have a rest that already has components missing.

I just received the cast iron Bald Eagle with the cable adjustment for windage. I like the elevation with the 2 stage coarse and fine adjustment, the windage cable is different and will take some getting used to coming from a joystick type rest. It is very stable and I am looking forward to using it at my next 1k VBR match.

Just got my aluminum one today. Hopefully, I'll have time to clean and lube it tomorrow. I'll report back on the hysteresis, or lack thereof! As noted in my earlier post, the first one would not move fully to the right until I tore it apart, cleaned, and lubed it. When cranking the windage cable beyond where the rest top would move, there certainly would have been a hysteresis problem. I believe that to be completely cured now on my first Bald Eagle!
