Any experience with the Grizzly Bald Eagle Bench Rest?

It a good rest for the $$ with the mods. That said the only reason I got rid of mine (cast iron) was the loose threads on the legs and center post. I could of continued with the mods and bushed all of those but I went to a SEB mini instead.

You must be shooting FTR. Only discipline that I would consider the jpod. How much trouble would it be to install heli coils in the leg holes. Neither my Alum. or cast iron Bald Eagles have loose screw holes in the legs, but they are only 30yrs old. I lock the center post on mine and don't have any problem

Maybe Shiraz changed them. If you think you need a speed screw just put a 1/2X13 insert in it with 3/8X16 ID threads

An insert would be good too, searching the net now but I am having a bit of trouble finding a vendor that will sell just a couple of them though.

Don't know what tools that you may have, but you can cut the threads off a bolt or all thread. Loctite them in your base and tap drill them and then tap 3/8X16. You would need a drill press to do it right if you didn't have a mill. If you have a lathe, just stick them in the lathe, drill, and tap.

Used a lot of keenserts back in the day, but easier for me to make them with my tools. I do have a pretty large assortment of heli coils, Keenserts, and other brands, both metric and fractional sizes.

Yes. Put one on mine.

3 of us bought the slingshots. After two weeks we were fed up with the backlash off that windage cable and removed it. Used different size washers and orings to make a windage wheel. Works nice after that.

I added a Farley joystick top to mine and am very happy with the results. Cast iron slingshot base.

IMHO, if you buy one, get the Slingshot with the Cast Iron base. It is steadier than the Aluminum base model and less likely to move around with kicking calibers.

This is what I think I will do as I can't find a source for inserts that doesn't want me to buy a bunch of them. I don't have a drill press but my neighbor does, we lend stuff back and forth so that's not a problem. I think I will do as Dusty suggested and drill to 5/8", tap, thread in a cutoff brass bolt and then drill and tap it 3/8"x16. Thanks for your suggestions.

There is some good comments on RFC about the rest, and good discussion on mods to delete the windage cable. Short story of that is to flip the top around 180*, use a threaded carb mounting bolt and the original windage knob to make windage adjustments.
