Help w/ Win 296 in .357 mag

I had a conversation with a technician at Hodgdon a couple of years back. I was asking about H110 (same as WW296) and he told me that this powder was designed to work at maximum pressures. He also said it should be lit with a magnum primer. WW296/H110 has a very small load window, usually there is only about a grain difference between minimum and maximum load density. For something that isn't at the ragged edge of load density and is a consistent metering (flattened) ball powder, give Longshot a try. It's burn rate is a little faster than Alliant 2400 and a little slower than Alliant Blue Dot, it burns very clean and doesn't require a magnum primer.

I have never used a mag pistol primer, I buy Winchester LP, it states on the box for standard and magnum loads....never had an issue, even in negative degree C weather.

Cheers.

Thread is just over 4 years old, but yes, that data did give me pause; maybe that’s Rifle data?
I loaded the 180 gr Nosler .357 Partition, back when they were still made, out of a 10” T/C Contender octagon bbl. Also worked with the Hornady 180 gr. SS/PB (Single Shot/Pistol Bullet), but it was really designed for .35 Rem out of the T/Cs; little to no expansion at the velocity capable in the .357 10”.
The Remington 180 gr SJHP was a pleasant surprise, due in part to its well exposed lead hollow point and thinner jacket. Expansion was good as was accuracy.
