Help to positively Id this rifle

That is a 1917 that is what Audy Murphy actual used not the Springfiold 1903 they always show him with in movies and in pictures!

Didn't Weatherby use some of these for his early builds as well. I know in early 1990's I think Kimber was still selling sporterized P1917's I think someone was I saw them for sale for years in Gun Buyers Anual magazine release.
You missed it by one WW, it was Alvin York, of Tennessee, that was issued a M1917 during WW1 (American Expeditionary Force), not Audie Murphy. Murphy fought in WW2, and your 'Average" GI was issued a M1 then.

Photos send by Butch to Forum Boss. We are Still trying to find out why he has a posting issue -- probably an interest connection snag.

The "EL COYOTE" photo is my 222 Remington Magnum Ackley Improved that Wyman Meinzer said I needed. The walnut was very nicely profiled by jghoghunter and is on the way to joshb for his touch.
The molested M17 was built on a NOS receiver with a higher serial number than I have been able to identify. 416 Rigby and was featured with an inside cover color photo in the American Custom Gunmaker Guild magazine. The receiver was not a Remington 30S but was the same with no duckpond or ears. The bolt did come from a "P14" that Dan Armstrong made pretty.

Guessing because an early one in unmolested condition would be highly collectable
Any M1917 or P'14 that is unmolested is collectable. I bought that Winchester as an action complete with bottom metal, not as a complete rifle that I tore down. While I was in GS school, many years ago, I bought actions, mostly from Century Arms, they were cheap then. But, I saw many Mauser '98s , in pristine condition, get dismantled and wondered why anyone would do such a thing when very nice actions were still available. SAMCO used to be a good source for mil-surps, too,,,,, and Southern Ohio Gun.
