Help me trim .284 win

Get yourself the Giraud full blown trimmer with a .284 case holder and cutter head. Yes, it is pricey, but it will last a lifetime and do the job as well as anything out there. I waited several years before finally buying one. Once I did, I acknowledged immediately that I wished I had done it [much] sooner.

No reason it should, because it will trim any of the 308 family no problem..
I have a few of them, and even the 6.5x 47 will trim my 22 & 25 no problem.
Not even sure how neck size has any thing to do with it..
Unless they are referring to you can't just neck size, and depend on trimming to the shoulder...
You need a consistent shoulder for the WFT to work it's magic....

If you neck size only, you will find the rounds will not fit into the WFT. This is what they are referring to. For example, if I try to trim a fired piece of brass in the WFT, it either won’t fit, or the fit is so tight that when to start the drill turning the brass turns with it because the body of it is literally stuck in the WFT. The way around this is to size the brass first and then trim it, then you never get the brass sticking in the WFT. Hope this helps.

That makes sense and it corresponds with what they guy said on the phone. Something about the brass might fit too tightly in the trimmer. I was baffled. They could have added “ONLY neck size” and I would have understood.

Thanks for everyone’s help/opinions. I am either going to order the full blown Giraud or a couple of WFTs for my two competition calibers. Just trying to figure out whether to stay in the deep rabbit hole or go to the really deep rabbit hole.

The WFT works great for me and I have 4 of them that stay permanently set for a particular rifle. I know the auto-Dod or Idod, or Giraud are likely more accurate but as long as you start with extremely accurate sizing that yields extremely consistent (ie +/-0.0005”) base to shoulder measurement, you will easily be able to hold +/-0.001” in overall brass length.

The Henderson trimmer works great. It chamfers and deburs at the same time also.
