Help me pull the trigger!

Thanks for all the inputs..! I wound up finding a new never fired 35 year safe queen SAUER 200 270w from mid 80's. Beautiful rifle with field grade walnut. Definitely a step up from the 100 series Sauer and a well balanced rifle. 7 1/4lbs so not too light and not too heavy. Have shot one in the past. Kind of a rare find but I found it and be here in a week. I think the Sauer 100 ceracote/plastic stock model is prob the best choice out there for a sub 1000$ rifle. hard to find the Weatherby mk5 action rifles that arent ultra lightweight with pencil barrels.

The Weatherby Outfitter is their Mark V action.
Seeing as it's a 270 Win, it's probably the 6 lug, not the 9 lug.

Still, at an advertized weight of 5,3/4 lbs, THAT'S LIGHT!
yeah I didnt realize it was that light when I did my original post! no way. I'm not a sheep hunter

Rifle doesn't have to be heavy to be appreciated.
I live in PA, but want to go out west to hunt elk & muleys.

There is a HUGE difference between walking the mountains 4 miles here vs out west!

I'm looking at either a light weight build, or buying a light weight rifle for the trip next year.

I had bought a used Forbes 24B in 280 Rem, speciffically for a western hunt. It was a joy to carry around here vs my other rifles!
When it didn't look like i would ever get to go out west, i sold the rifle.
Then after selling it, my wife tells me, "if you want to hunt out west, do it! We'll make the finances work!". :mad::mad:

So i've been looking into rifles in the cartridge i want (280AI), and comparing weight, barrel length & other features vs price.

I'm leaning heavily towards the Weatherby Mark V Hunter.
Not the lightest at 6.1lb. But has a good trigger, 24" fluted, threaded barrel.
For me it's the most ready to go out of the box.

I live out west and grew up muley huntin' and still hunt them. Personally I prefer a medium weight rifle that gives you a liitle heft when offhand shooting. It seems like I have had more fast offhand shots than anything. Probably because the ones I hunt have developed a taste for midnight alfalfa and then go hide in the woods in the day!

If you use a 700 action then dont forget to rubber band the bolt! Unless the new ones are different than my 280 I had in a 700bdl years ago.
