help me pick a scope

I shoot 300 yd F-class and think I need a higher power scope to aid my 73 year old eyes. Currently using a 6-24 and am looking at a Sightron SIII 15-60, a Nightforce BR 12-42 and a vortex golden eagle. What would be your recommendations ?

I have/had all three scopes. All customer service was great but had minor issue with Nightforce warranty. I personally would rule out the BR 12-42 due to forward objective parallax adjustment. That is more suited to bench applications. Side parallax i.e. Sightron and Vortex, more suited to Fclass prone. I started off with Sightrons but switched to Vortex, just my preference. Price lines are not that far apart. Just my 2 Lincolns.

I got 2 NF 8-32's and both are easily good to 400 yd on 32x (ar as I've shot them, thus far) . Excellent glass. 32x gives about 6-8' field of view at that max magification.

I also got a S3 15-60 that is not quite as clear glass. Haven't mounted it yet (waiting on 50 yd Vudoo BR action.) I am told at max mag it blurs on the edges, but I plan on using it at 45x.

I use the golden eagle and like it. Haven't used the others so can't compare them. You would probably be happy with any of them, have heard good things about all of them.

Sightron SV maybe. I am doubting that if that Sightron SIII can't get it done for you that there's a scope that will.

Misread your post: You are thinking about getting the SIII. Yes. I would get that scope.

I quit buying anything but NF a couple of years ago. As for the AO on the BR, if all you are shooting is 300-yard F-Class, once it is set you might never need to touch it again all season. And even shooting 300, 500 and 600 it should only take you a few seconds to focus it after each move. I would not get a Sightron over a NF BR just because of the SF issue.

I run two Vortex GE's and for the money I don't think they can be beat. Haven't had any issues with holding zero out to 1000 yards and the glass is more than acceptable to my eyes.

That is NOT true, many scopes for many eyes ...and I can say from experience that Sightron does NOT work for my eyes while the other two listed DO work for my eyes.

Interesting. Ive never been impressed by any vortex or nightforce scope. I use swfa fixed 10s, several sightrons, march high master, and a steiner military.

I have several Sightrons and a bunch of various Nightforce, for both varminting and targets. I think you would find the Sightron SIII 15-60X with the 1/8 M.O.A. dot to be a great scope. I'd sight it in set at the powder you want to shoot (maybe 40X) as you don't want to change your power setting after getting a zero. If I could only pick one and the difference in money was not important - I'd get the Nightforce Competition - not to be confused with the Bench rest model. Fewer issues - solid scope.

If you can afford to step up, a Sightron SVSS ED is noticeably better glass and the geared focus is a game changer when compared to the S3, BR, or GE.

lancexxx is a Sightron dealer here on the forum and can get you a really really good price on a Sightron if you decide to go that way.

My Vortex GE has a picky, small eye box - head position becomes very important. The GE also dims terribly above 35x or so. I like the controls and it is rock solid. For use at 300yards and at less than 35x zoom, I think it works fine and is a good deal.

Thank you guys for the help, I appreciate it. I am going to take a closer at the Sightron and Night Force both. I'll see if I can get a look through them at the range when someone is there that has them.
