Help figuring out my 10-10

Ok I think I figured out what I'm doing wrong. It is real easy for the knife edges to slide aginst the metal holding in the agate. I made sure to center beam away from them and it seem to weigh check weight correctly and go back to zero. Would just like to make clear I was never putting down scott or his work. I was sure it was my set up and I believe I've found it. Check weight does weigh correctly, I meant it wasn't weighing correctly on 10-10. 2 other scales confirmed that. Careful placement of beam knife edges is where I think I was going wrong.

I have wondered about that "centering thing", because, I am wondering if it is possible to completely prevent it from getting off center during use. I thought maybe that is why the ends of the knives were made pointy...so that they did not influence scale operation if the beam got off center.

In theory it shouldn't matter if the knife edges are touching the end plates. As you say, the knife edges come to a point in line with the edge, as the beam revolves around this point there should be very little friction, think of an infinitely sharp needle spinning on a diamond. In reality these things are far from perfect and a certain mount of friction does take place.

Interestingly, unlike the RCBS range, the Hornady scales use a curved knife edge to centre the beam so no end plates are used. Lee also use a different system with no end plates.
