Help - Best Tracking variable power scope.

The first focal plane 30mm Weaver 15x and 20x track well and have good glass for the cost.
I as well had good luck with this relatively inexpensive scope tracking, I competed at a 1000 yards with it on a .300wm and did okay.

I've still got a few Leupold VXIII LR scopes, but have mostly supplanted them with Sightron SIIIs. Got a couple of the SIII 8-32x56s on LR BR rifles, and seven of the 6-24x50s on various other LR rifles. All track consistently & reliably.

Much as I'd like to get my hands on a Premier Heritage 5-25x56 for my DTA SRS, I've really never felt that the SIII 6-24x50 LRMOA was inadequate in any way. Only feature really lacking in the SIIIs is a zero stop for the elevation knob. Price is the deal breaker for me - just can't justify dropping $3k+ on a Premier when the SIII does the job so well.

Have you ever looked through the optics on a Premier? I have through both you are mentioning I personally think there is no comparison. I like the SIII scopes and have a couple but in low light conditions especially I can tell the difference.

Wayne,
Yep, a good friend has a Premier Heritage 5-15x56 on his DTA, and I've spent some time looking at & through it - not in marginal light conditions, though. Side-by-side comparison late in the afternoon/early evening would be necessary to get me off the soapbox in support of the Sightron SIIIs, but even then, the difference would have to be astounding to make the Premier worth four times what the Sightrons cost. Guess there's more to it than just the optical quality - the Premier has some pretty neat features, and those big knobs make it pretty easy to see the numbers on the dial, plus giving a lot of adjustment per revolution.

I kinda went overboard building rifles after buying a lathe and learning to do barrel & action work, and as a result, I needed more than just a couple of good quality scopes. That's one thing that makes the SIIIs so attractive - I can afford to put a good scope on every rifle. I need to sell off a few rifles - thin the herd, so to speak. If I'd get that done, then I could afford to put a Heritage on the DTA, and not feel bad about dropping the $$$ for it.

I totally understand my friend ;)
