Hi all, Let's get the hate messages out of the way first, ( I am from Massachusetts). My wife is planning on retiring after the first of the year. Thinking of mid to western North Carolina, possibly Tennessee. South Carolina or Georgia are not out of the equation either. Not Florida! Here is what we are thinking maybe an over 55 community, or nice neighborhood not looking for a lot of land or maintenance, Have a heart condition so don't want to leave her with a lot to maintain. Now the most important part, gun clubs. I have been shooting firearms as far back as I can remember I am 65 Have been an NRA pistol instructor for the past 14 years and 6 years ago my friends and I started shooting 600 yard F-class. I would like to be within an hour drive of a club that I can join as a member, not interested in a pay as you go range. Would like a club that puts on frequent matches 600 yard & or 1000, always willing to help out with matches. We plan on taking a ride down that way end of October and getting a feel for the area. Thanks for any input or suggestions. Just please don't tell me to stay in Massachusetts, this state is to liberal for me!!!!! Thanks Again Dave.

Summerville, Nexton development area. There is a Del Webb community among others. I can’t recall the name of the closest range there, 800 yds I believe. Another in ST Matthews.

WNC is great but I am a little partial. East Tennessee is some beautiful country as well. Big Ivy is my nearest range. Oak Ridge TN would be the biggest with shoots and events. Asheville is pretty liberal. Coming in October will allow you to see fall colors hopefully. You might as well hit the Blue Ridge Parkway and see some sights. People seem to be moving in droves to east TN and WNC purchasing houses site unseen. The market is bound to cool though, and I believe it has already begun. I'm in Burnsville which is about 30min from the TN state line.

You move south and you won't be a yankee anymore, you'll be a damn yankee. I moved to Maine and they call us flatlanders or in our case Massholes. I guess that's better than a Mainiac.

I bought a house in the Tryon NC area 2 years ago with plans to move there permanently next year. The foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains is beautiful on either side whether NC or Tennessee. When I lived in NYC I had a weekend place in the Pocono mountains of PA on the Delaware river which we loved, but the winters are just too cold and long for us at our age. If you prefer a more urban area, Greenville SC is a great town with friendly folks and fairly low cost of living. I suggest you spend some time in the areas you mention and see what appeals to you most. We have a lot of ranges nearby with 300 yard rifle courses. Coleman's Creek has a 1 mile and 1200 meter ranges. It would be on the other side of Charlotte about 2.5 hours drive. I am sure there are more options for 600 yard shooting but I don't know the area well enough yet.

Considering having a first class range close by I'd look around Oak Ridge TN. Johnson City/ Bristol TN area is nice also.
We hope to move to Brevard NC next year. That will get me 6-7 hours closer to matches.

Well we looked all over the South 22 years ago.
We ended in High Desert Dry Central Oregon. 3 1000 yard Range . Hunting Fishing 365 days a year.

Then Shit Happens!! California found this this place "SUCKS".
Stay South. Friends in SC they love it lots of Benefits for Seniors.

Too many outsiders here also. Don't want your money or your ways.
I can sympathize with you. I have a few friend's in VT that told me people started moving near them from NY City and they wanted to change things to suit their needs. You know what then stay the FK in NYC. Then I love the out of state ahole's that move near a shooting range then they try like Hell to shut it down because they don't like to hear gunfire, again if your a Democratic yuppie that doesn't like gunfire make sure that you don't move near a shooting facility. So I don't blame you one bit for saying what you did.
