Heavy bullets and the 30BR

I am thinking of building a 30BR, but want to put a suppressor on it for hunting and playing.

I can find minimal data,Sierra) for the 30BR and heavy bullets.

I thought about a 300 Whisper but it lacks the oomph that I can get with the BR and I have tons of Lapua brass laying around.

My goal is subsonic or close to it with 220s or 240s.

Anyone have any data with the heavies and the 30BR?

A.300 Whisper will push a 240 at subsonic,or even supersonic) velocities quite well. See http://www.quarterbore.com/300whisper/subsonic.html

What weight bullets are you looking at? I can give you some information on the 150gr. bullets, maybe some others. I'd have to look and see what I was working on.

If you get a larger case so you can get more "ooomph", you will be over 1,100 fps and you won't be silent anymore. :,

I believe if you do the 300 Whisper you will be super happy. I am with mine. I have both 30BR also. My 300 Whisper shoots better than the 30BR. You will stay subsonic with the Whisper.

Catshooter:

With the Whisper and subsonic, the target hears noting until it is too late.

With the Whisper supersonic, the target gets wacked then hears the sonic crack, it is still friggin to late.

My experience a 240 Match king traveling a 1100 fps will punch through a broadsided deer or a man with a slight thump and exit the orther side. If you are standing beside the target you would not know it has been hit until it drops. The entry wound has no supersonic trauma associated with it. The wound looks like a sharp rod was pushed through the body. The recovered bullets if not deformed from hitting a hard object will be so pristine with rifling that it could be reloaded and shot again.

The whisper was designed for one mission in mind. It is a silent killing machine. It can be built on a takedown bolt gun or built on an AR platform. They will shoot with precision accuracy to 100 yards and acceptable accuracy to 200 yards.
They are quite amazing.

Well these past couple weeks I have done some digging around.

There is a caliber called the 302 Whisper.

As near as I can tell its a long throated 30BR. There might be some other small changes, but that is all I can tell from pics.

So the other day I called SSK to ask some questions. I ended up talking to the man himself, JD Jones. When he said hello I breathed a sigh of relief as I knew I would be able to get some good straight answers from someone that knows.

Long story short, he told me to pound sand. He said that if you do not buy the gun and dies from me, I will not provide you with any info and or data.

I again explained that I was not looking for a free handout and I was willing to buy the data and any info/tips from him. I understand he put time in and did the R&D and should make some $$$ for his work. I have no problem with that.

After this conversation, I know where I wont be spending any money.

Anyone want to buy a SSK Scope mount for a Freedom Arms Model 83?
