SELLING Heavy 6.5-284 long Range Rifle

I have this rifle I am ready to sell. I bought it years ago to get my over 1500 and 2000 yd prairie dog kills. Remember when Varmint Hunter Magazine held that contest? My partner and I had both made our over 1000 yd kills and were setting up for over 1500 when his heart gave out so that project ended. The rifle never made it to the dogtown.

It is sleeved and has a bedding block as can be seen in the pics. It has a Jewell trigger. It is a .290 neck.The barrel measures 1.5 inches straight taper. The twist is 1 in 8. The forearm is 6 inches wide and the buttstock is 3 inches wide. The rig with the scope weighs 28 lbs. I don't know the round count. It was low from me and supposed to be low from the original owner.
I don't know the barrel make or the Gunsmith. I think it came from the Northwest.
Scope is not included.

For the 6.5 Creedmore followers, cut the threads off the barrel, rethread and rechamber. New throat, low recoil, great fun. Reasonable price for a magnificent rig.

Surely someone wants this fine rifle. What if I throw in a set of dies and pp Lapua prepped cases.

don't think so. the 6.5-284 is a rebated rim cartridge. the bolt face is .473 but the case body is close to .501. so you would have to take the tenon and the whole chamber off the redo to most 6.5 calibers. could save a little steel with a 6.5 saum or 6.5wsm, but would have to change the bolt face then to a mag bolt - so another non starter lol

OK, there is enough barrel to take off the whole chamber and start over. The bolt faces are the same. Would that work?

I think the base of the case to the start of the neck is ~ 2.5" and the tenon is ~.75 so you would loose about 3.25 of barrel to change to another 6mm. looks like you might have plenty of barrel left??? that looks to be at least 28" so it could finish at ~24"ish
