Heavy 30br

Going to build a 1.250 straight to shoot at club matches with no restrictons, what should the barrel length be, will shoot out to 300 yds. max.

If it was me, I would build a normal 30BR VFS rifle. A. I don't think that you're giving up any real advantage and B. You would be able to sell it if you wanted. C. Should you want to compete elsewhere, it is more likely to be legal.

I have one for the same purpose. Mine is 28" and shoots very good. One thing to consider is rifle balance with a heavy barrel. You might have to add some weight in the butt so it's not muzzle heavy. A real good bullet for 300 yards is BIB 118-10.

I would definately build a legal one to specs.
You never know how far you might want to take this.
I built/bought plenty of oddballs in my time. Some extremely accurate.
Now that IBS score shooting is in my area they aren't worth a hoot.

For 300yds, I'd prefer a 135gr BT with a closed point. The accuracy of a BT versus FB is
usually in the crown. I once had a barrel that would only shoot FB's until I had it re crowned. After that it shot both very well. So I used the FB's at 200 yds and the BT's at 300. Because I had less wind drift at 300 with the BT's. I used the FB's at 200 because they were easier to make than the BT and were not that wind sensitive at
200yds.

I agree with DASHER. I always had a 23 to 24" bbl. in my NRA Match Rifles in 308Win.
It worked out fine at 300 & 600 yds. However, if I only shot out to 300yds, I'd go with a 30BR and 125/135gr BT's with closed points which should work well. But for 600yds, I'd rather have a 308Win. with a long BT 165gr with closed points. Recoil with this combination is mild and manageable.
